Well...I had the strangest thing happen tonight while I was visting my mother-in-law. She gave us a check for $500.00 and said it was for our trip (gift). She can be ....well...rather abrasive to say it nicely. So it was a shock to say the least. Disney does magical things to people would'nt you say? :flower:

That is awesome. Mine has never offered even to give the kids a little spending money. For that matter no one on his side has ever offered. Mine in the other hand is very generous when we go on trips. THey don't give a lot, but they make sure on every trip my kids have at least 30 from them. My brother and sister give them money as well. This past December they even paid for us to go have a nice dinner on top of giving my kids money. We leave on our cruise Sunday, but my parents didn't give any money, but they have been very helpgul in the past 2 weeks. We all got the flu and even with insurance it cost about 600 for us to see doctors and get medicine. Well we are selling our house and building so now is not the time to start putting things on the credit cards. My parents phoned over and said since we had the cruise coming up and doing everything with the house they wanted to pay when the kids went to the doctor and all their meds--that covered a lot. I have great parents :cool1: I would never have dreamed to ask them, they just offered.

I have a kind and wonderful dad but he has always been so tight with his money! All the grandchildren have been to WDW several times and all are forbidden to tell grandpa what we spend there. My dad however has been diagnosed with a severe form of Parkinson disease and has had a complete turn around on what matters in life. On our last trip in which all 3 grandboys were going, he gave us 200.00 and told us to just enjoy an extra special meal. This is from the man that always made us carry our sandwiches into WDW and made us stay 20 miles alway to get a cheap room!!
We did CM with that money and it was truly a special time. Enjoy the money and spend it on a truly special extra.

Sandy2002 - Enjoy the money from your MIL. Do you have any kids? When you spend it make sure they know where it came from (they don't need to know how much). This way when they get home they can tell Grandma exactly how happy her gift made them. She will get such a thrill out of hearing it from them. My MIL gave us money for our first trip and we used it for a PS in Norway with the princesses and for souviners at DTD. When the kids got home they showed her all the autographs and pictures from the breakfast and modeled any clothes they bought and showed her all their souviners. They even insisted on picking out one for her by themselves.

Enjoy your trip

I gave her a hug before we left and I made sure to tell her thank you. I will be sure that our daughter knows where the money to do someting special came from. I also want to make sure to get Grandma something especially nice with it! My MIL can come across rough at times but I thnk she is a big softy inside! :flower:

My inlaws are wonderful! They are always helping us. In fact my MIL just called and said that she was in the Disney Store buying pjs and dresses for my 2 and 5 y.o. DDs. They're also giving us money to help us pay for our trip. We planned the trip and then have had nothing but bad luck as far as bills go. First my DD5 had to get 11 stitches at the ER and even with insurance, we owe $800. Now we find out that efen though my DH and I are both teachers and off all summer, we can mo longer pay a holding fee for my DD2 to the day care for the summer. We have to pay $800 for time that she won't efven be ther. Just one thing after another. When I told my mother, she said we should cancel the trip. No way! Thank God for my inlaws. Glad to see other parents are much like them.

I had to respond as both my trip and my brother's wouldn't be possible without my father's generous gift to us - WDW vacation. My mom passed away unexpectantly in January and my Dad was diagnosed in December with ALS and he wanted us to have some good/special memories of this year - especially for the kids. My brother lives in Manitoba and we are in Nova Scotia so this will be an opportunity for our kids to get to know one another.

As my Dad put it, "If I give you money you'll spend it (on bills) this way you have to take some time and build special memories." Dad & Mom had always planned to go to WDW with us and the kids some day but time moved too quickly . . . and although he can't make the trip he will be with us every step of the way as we record our memories to share with him on our return.

My parents always wanted to take all of us to WDW. There were 5 of us with 13 kid between us. Needless to say that never happened and both of my parents are gone now along with 2 of my brothers and one niece. It has been my dream to take my kids and grandkids to WDW. I am now planning the first trip for my youngest son's family and next year I will take the oldest family.

This way the kids will remember the trip with grandma better since I can give all of my attention to each family. I love my daughter in laws and have the best relationship with each of them. I am just amazed at the stories about the MIL's that cause such misery. I will never understand that.

Hello,

Me and my DF have had a similar experience of generosity.

My DF parents have paid for everyones flights (Me & DF, His sister and BIL and niece, aswell as thier own) and our share of the villa was paid for by DF grandparents.

We are very very lucky as we have just bought our house and it is in need of a lot of renovating so we could not have even afforded a holiday never mind WDW this year was it not for their kind offer.
