Great news!

From the article:
WASHINGTON - The nation's unemployment rate dropped to a 4 1/2-year low as businesses cranked up hiring in January, an encouraging sign that the economy started the year on the right foot.

The latest jobs picture, provided by the Labor Department on Friday, suggested that companies are feeling better about the economy's prospects as well as their own and thus are more inclined to hire. Good weather in parts of the country also helped, especially for construction work.

The unemployment rate dropped from 4.9 percent to 4.7 percent, the lowest since July 2001.

OOPS!

Thanks for checking. The link is fixed now. :)

That's an absolutely true statistic, but he's still got a way to go before he comes close to the lowest levels achieved under the former president. Here's a link to a page compiling official government statistics in graph form that show how anemic the current president has been economically.

Joe, I don't know if you have kids, but do you go up to them and tell them that you're proud to support a president that is responsible for $8.2 TRILLION dollars in debt, or do you merely tell them about statistics like the one above that show that he's brought the unemployment rate back down to slightly above the rate he inherited from the last president?

Make sure you look at the job creation graph under the current president as well...that's a pretty sad record, isn't it?

We have lots of jobs around here. The stores are hiring and the fast food restaurants are hiring like crazy and yes, there's plenty of low paying jobs now. Not to mention the large number of former workers that have now fallen off the employment lists per the TWC. So no worries, right? :confused3

It's still good news. :sunny:

9-11 took quite a toll on the economy, a fact that many forget when they make comparisons. America has rebounded and is growing in strength. This country's rugged spirit is inspiring. :sunny:

Yep. We're almost able to fairly compete with the third world for low paying jobs. Wow, I can't wait to take home my monthly bonus for working all those hours -- I get an extra scoop of rice!!!

Sarcasm and cynicism is not a recipe for success.

You should check the job ads in the Chicago area. You should see all the new (and good-sized) homes being built everyday in the western and southern suburbs. :sunny:

You should see the size of the federal deficit under the Bush administration. You should check the abysmal record of job creation under the Bush administration. You like to use selective observation within a small geographic area, but I prefer to use actual government data that encompasses the entire country. Here's the link again for you Joe, since you obviously didn't click and comment on it the first time.

Sure it is. Just check out Despair.com :teeth: They're doing quite well.

My question is: How long until Upper Management figures out the corporation can save billions by outsourcing middle management? Why not, they're willing to outsource production, design, customer service, etc. Who the heck are they managing anyway? What's the next step in the spiral down to the bottom? How long until they ask why are we paying these one hundred managers what we can hire 300 trained Chinese managers to do -- they'll work longer hours and won't call in sick and we'll only pay 1/5 the cost? Health benefits? Retirement? They don't need such things, just a pat on the back and an extra scoop of rice.

Heck, I vote we outsource Government. Who needs all these Senators and Representatives with their hands out all the time? We can be so much more efficient if we outsource the process. You don't need to actually go to an office, just use the webcam to connect with New Dehli or Shanghai. It's almost like being there...

As for those large houses being built at such a rapid pace, I wish everyone in the booming housing markets the best of luck. As property values skyrocket, long time homeowners are or will be faced with tax bills they simply can't afford. What are they going to do? Move? Take out a loan to pay their taxes? Get real. Of course, when the real estate bubble bursts -- the long time owners will hopefully be secure, but the people overextended in those mansions are going to be sucking wind, big time.

Nice UCFW biased link. The "War on the Poor" One link graph ends at 1998. Graphs on the main page show the impact of 9-11 on jobs and the deficit, which people like you conveniently forget.

The country is heading in the right direction! (despite the doom and gloom of some) :sunny:

Maybe in Chicago there is jobs. Where I live at there still no jobs available.

I would love a good paying full time job. Right now I have worked 3 part time jobs because I can't found a full time one.

Yeah right the job market is does not have good paying jobs. If hear one more person tell go college get a degree to get a better job. I will scream. I already have a college degree.

Ah yes, a false economy built on an internet bubble that burst. Eight years of fabricated accounting that the Bush administration finally cracked down on. But history shows the economic growth under Clinton was on paper only. REAL economic growth took place under Reagan, and the Bush economy is impressive considering 9/11, two wars, and inheriting a recession.

As far as the deficit goes, last time I checked it's the job of Congress to pass a budget.

Good try, Joe. All graphs on the page I linked to go back to 1993. Care to tell us how information imported directly from official Government statistics is wrong?

That would be the republican controlled congress, right? The party that's controlled it since 1994, right?

With all due respect, I would suggest paying someone else to write your cover letters and resume. You may have better luck.

I heard tonight that middle management will be the next to take the hit at GM so they may be realizing how expendable they are.

Joe, it's good news for who? I'm glad that your Chicago want ads are so thick but have you taken a look at what types of jobs are being advertised? Whatever they are, I wish that Dallas' ads were so healthy. Our Want Ads section is awfully sparse.

Well said! :sunny:

Now if we could cut back on the pork barrel spending.

There's always pockets of better and worse.

Overall the nation's ecomomy is heading in the right direction. :sunny:

I do pay someone to write my resumes and cover letters. I know darn well my writing skills is awful.

I hate English grammar never could understand it. Thank God for Science and Advanced Math class or my college GPA would be low.
