Does anyone have any experience or advice for Underwater Camera Housing for a Canon camera? We are thinking of buying an underwater housing unit for a Canon A720 IS camera. Tired of the disposable cameras.

Thanks.

I just bought a Dicapac for my Canon A570IS. It's more for snorkeling/pool use rather than diving. I think it's good down to about 30 feet. It was $30 at www.newegg.com. Also, Canon makes underwater housings for their cameras, but they are quite expensive ($150 +). They are more heavy-duty than the Dicapac. It depends on what you are looking for.

Here's a link to the Dicapac website to figure out which model you would need. http://www.dicapac.com/new_eng/03_manual/sub02.html

We had a Canon u/w housing for our A610 until the A610 brok (completely unrelated to the housing) so I've since replaced it with the A720 and it's matching housing.

The u/w housings definitely making the cameras more bulky but we do quite a bit of snorkeling on our vacations so for us it's worth the investment. I've considered buying the Olympus 1030SW since it's waterproof but I've read cases where they haven't been waterproof to peoples unpleasant surprise, not something I want to take a chance with so as long as I keep reading about cases like this I'll stick with the u/w housing.

You do have to be careful with the housings, we always rinse it off with fresh water after using it in salt water for the day and it's important to keep the o-ring greased and free of dirt and such. It's really not that difficult though.

Thanks.

My DH is now looking for housing fhor his Canon A530. They seem to have made housing for the A520 and the A 510....of course.

I bought the Canon housing for my SD750 and it works like a charm. More expensive than some other options, but I wanted one that would provide me with a high level of comfort and make it easy to change between scene settings.

No experience with that - but I just saw a really cool mask in the Frontgate catalog that has an integrated underwater camera on top of the mask! It takes regular film and AAA batteries - I might have to give that a try.

We bought the Olympus Stylus 8.0MP Waterproof Shock-Resistant Digital Camera. And we love it. So far we have tested it in a bath tub and swimming pool. It is about 275.00 but well worth it. It even does video. Now the playback for sound on the camera itself is not all that great, but once you put it on the television it is awesome. We looked at getting an underwater housing for our Nikon D40. However we thought it was easier to have the smaller camera instead. Plus we bought a holder where we can attatch it to our wrists while swimming.

I just bought the Dicapac for my canon. Imagine putting your camara in a zip lok bag and taking it under water. I am confident that it will keep it dry, and for the $30 I spent, it works great. It is just a bit more work to than I really want to deal with. If I had the extra $150 I would have went with the Canon housing, but for the little bit of snorkling I will be doing, the Dicapak will work fine.

I took this this afternoon of my daughter in our pool with a Canon 1100IS in the Dicapak

I have the prior model Olympus Stylus 790SW 7.1MP. I used it while snorkeling at Castaway Cay and other islands. It's easy to pack and takes lovely photos.

I have used a camera with water housing, but find the Olympus more convenient.

These days, with hefty airline luggage charges, I'm packing lighter.

I also have the Olympus 790- as listed above- it is so nice- I have used it alot since buying it. I love my Canon rebel- but love to not worry by the pool or beach with my water camera! Also not to have to worry about the bag leaking etc. I will try to post some pics later that I took with the camera- also love the video feature- it's cool to video under water too!!!
