We are trying to decide of we should really add universal to our trip and if the extra cost is worth it for just a day or two. Is the park something we will regret missing?

I wouldnt say regret, as going to disney is a great vacation. Having said that if you can afford to add 2 days (especially if you stay in a universal resort) it is well worth it. You can probably do most attractions in both parks in 2 days. And there are some great attractions for kids 8 and 12 years old. Spiderman, the mummy and men in black are worth it alone. There is nothing in Disney similar to these three attractions. Surprisingly my 16 yo DS and I enjoyed Disney more. But will will definitely be visiting universal again on this trip. Some people said to visit universal after disney which we did last year. But we felt home sick for the world when we arrived at universal. So this year we will be going to universal first.

Like anything else, you won't truly know what you're missing... unless you don't miss it. Better to try it out than see/hear about it later and wish you had gone. If you don't like it, you don't have to make a return trip.

Okay, that was my unbiased answer. My biased answer is Universal > Disney. :p

You won't be sorry you decided to do both parks, what the heck, you will be close, so why not? Maybe just do the 1 day 2 park, and if you really like it, you can stay longer next trip.

How can you get an unbiased response on an Universal Studios Discussion Forum? :confused3

Yes you should go. Our family finds WDW too pixie dusty for our liking but everyone has their own tastes. We have a Universal Studios vacation at least twice a year and coming from Canada, that is quite a compliment.

I would advise you to book one night at an onsite Universal hotel and do the parks in 2 days. You can check in the early morning of day 1 and get FOTL that day and on the day you check out. You would be able to complete the two parks in two full days, riding your favorites multiple times. I would advise you to do this at the end of your trip since you will get very spoiled by these very short lines and a more relazed touring pace. I would actually consider a trip to Universal as a vacation and relaxing while WDW is a little more rush-rush, we have to get all this stuff done in this short amount of time

if your going to ask on this forum expect only biased responses ;)

Yes! It is worth it... and I love Disney better BUT Universal is AWESOME so there is my unbiased opinion... you have to go, IF you can...

We take a trip to Disney every year and we make sure we include Universal on each trip EVERY time. It's an awesome place and my kids love it as well.

You have two boys ages 8 and 12? Definitely go, at least to IOA. They will LOVE it!

You will probably feel less sentimental and excited about it, might even spend a little too much time comparing it to Disney at first, but you'll still have a blast.

As for the price of admission, the Spiderman ride alone made it worth it to me, if that helps.

Have fun planning.

I love IOA. Incredible Hulk and Spiderman is amazing. I don't really care about the other park but we go because we have the annual pass. Universal is not Disney but it is better than other parks like six flags. If you have the time and money, you should go. If you are on a budget I would advise against staying onsite. People say that this is such a great idea because you get front of line passes however you pay a lot for the hotel (and even for parking). We find that we can do each park in a day as long as you use their fast pass sytem. If you have teenagers then IOA is a must. Just remember that if you get a one day pass you will not be able to use their fast pass system. It is only good for multiple day passes.

Maybe some part of me does't want totally unbiased opinion, and ya'll are doing so good at it too.

Gotta convince DH this is the way to go. Shoot we are there for 9 nights, we'll have time.

Where are you coming from Darcy?

I am travelling from Yorkshire. England so to go that far and NOT go to IOA & USF would be a bit of a waste but if you can get to Orlando anytime then maybe it isnt worth it to go every trip.

We arent just going because of the distance travelled to get there. I really do love both the parks, I prefer the thrill rides of IOA but wouldnt miss USF out.

Is that right? I thought that anyone could get regular express passes from the machines.

We LOVE Disney. That being said last year we tried Universal in addition to Disney for three nights. We liked it so much this year we're staying four nights in addition to Disney. I don't compare the two because they are totally different but DH even said he would miss it now if we just did Disney. THis year we're adding SeaWOrld also.

This is not correct. All passes can be used for express pass even one day passes.

Ummmm..who told you that? Like Bev said, everyone can use the Express Passes.

i would NOT dream of going to orlando and missing universal !!

i go at least once a year. hit disney first for 9-10 nights then move over to hard rock hotel.........sometimes i cut back on the stay at disney in order to spend 5 nights at hrh.

three years ago i discovered hhn and i am completely addicted to it.
i plan my entire trip around that event .

it takes some guessing as i have to buy my air in advance, like in the spring. and, i always book my stay at hrh by mid/late march for the coming october.

last year i guessed wrong and went to universal the second weekend, wasnt sure if the 1st would be used for hhn. going the second weekend this year as again, not sure if it would start up sept 30.....which it is ....

do spend a couple of days at universal........it is not disney but very unique in its own way.

We were feeling the same as you and decided to extend our trip a few days in order to fit Universal in. If we don't like it, we won't go back. Heck, if we don't like it, we have APS for Disney and will travel back to those parks. It just seemed to us, if you're that close, you should at least give it a try!

I would spend 2 days. One each for IOA and US. Then of course there is the City Walk to enjoy. I presonally prefer IOA because I grew on reading Marvel Comics. And the thrill rides are superb.

I find Animal Kindom lacking, and EPCOT a little dull TBH.
