How would you pronounce this child's name?
"Le-a"

Leah?? NO
Lee - A?? NOPE
Lay - a?? NO
Lei??

Guess Again.

This child attends a school in Kansas City, Mo.

Her mother is irate because everyone is getting her name wrong.

It's pronounced "Ledasha".

When the Mother was asked about the pronunciation of the name, she said, "the dash don't be silent."

SO, if you see something come across your desk like this please remember to pronounce the dash.

If dey axe you why, tell dem de dash don't be silent.

I wonder how this mom would pronounce my full first name if she saw it since it is Kelli-Ann. Maybe I would need to inform her that the dash is silent.

Ladasha is an old one. I've seen it around a few times. It seems to surface with the names Orangejello and Lemonjello.

She must have moved, she used to live in LA

Personally, I've always though it should be pronounced "Lehyphena".

She must have moved, she used to live in LA

I could have sworn she was in Detroit. She must really get around! ;)

ETA - I must admit, I do find that last sentence a bit off-putting. None of the versions of this story that I've seen before have included it.

Everything else aside, people do give their children weird names. Even some celebrities have come up with some doozies.

Wow, that joke is inappropriate and not at all funny. It sounds like those horribly racist email joke forwards that float around.

I feel sorry for teachers, I know when I was in school the 1st week of school was always hard , I was even marked absent because when I was very young I would only answer when I heard it pronounced right.
