can i pay for the UMP's (to be put on the room cards) in advance? or can it only be done at check-in?
anyone know for sure?

Only at check-in because they are put on your room key.

Unlimited Magic Pass. I think the "official name" is now Ultimate Park Hopper. Also known as "length of stay". It's a pass that will admit you to all parks and attractions for the length of your stay (you can sometimes drop the first and last day), during regular hours. Unused days cannot be saved.
