We saw this on a commercial last night and we haven't stopped laughing since! Who names a medicine Aciphex? Say it out loud. Pretty hilarious, ain't it? :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl:

Now follow the link and play each little video clip on the front page of their site. Disgusting! That's what their commercial was like too. Made my stomach turn!

Oh my gosh! :lmao::rotfl2: I so want to ask my doctor about it just to see his face.

Pretty funny. I thikn that if some companies had a focus group of maybe 5 English speakers, they could avoid unfortunate names.

I have always thought that "Vonage" sounds too much like "vomit." Why would anyone name their company something with that association?

I don't get it. This is not the first word to have the "aci" sound...acid, acidophilous, acetate etc. And the drug is something of a miracle to those of us who have suffered with reflux...sorry you are grossed out by the symptoms. So are we...but luckily, Aciphex takes pretty good care of it.

I'm not saying it's not a good medication. If it works for you, that's awesome. I just hope I don't ever have it prescribed to me, because I can't even say the word with a straight face! :lmao:

Sorry, I guess I've got a 12 year old boy sense of humor. My son will think it's hilarious! :rotfl:

I hope you never have to explain to him what a buttress is, then.;)

Uhhh... I don't even want to know

I prefer my butresses Flying...

I get it now!!!!!!!!!!!! took me forever

My 3rd grade girls studied the solar system last year. They both did Powerpoint presentations about Uranus, and were forever telling me all kinds of interesting facts about that wonderful planet.

"Mom did you know that Uranus is a gas planet?" Well, no mine isn't, but your father is another story altogether.

As for Aciphex - I am glad to hear that it works well for many people, but I agree, they should have thought of another name, especially because of the way that pharmaceuticals are marketed nowadays through broadcast media.

There is no way in the world that they did not name that on purpose. I mean, it begs you to talk about it!! What other medication would we randomly be talking about on a message board?

Whoever did the marketing for that knew exactly what they were doing.

My usual response to this type of stuff is, "grow up people, it's a word!" But this one has me ROFL. It's not the first part that makes it funny, it's the combo with the second part.

All the other examples people have used... if you isolate the first syllable and just read the rest, means nothing. "Ress" nothing, "idopholous" nothing "etate" nothing, etc. But iphex...well, that sounds like another word.

And then the possible side effects (lol, again!), apparently yes, I can degenerate to the level of a 7 year old boy.

I have taken this for a couple years now. I guess I have never considered how the name sounds. All I considered was that it really really works! I thought the little clips were funny even though they are a little gross.:lmao:
