I want to clamp an umbrella to my scooter when I go in May. The sun literally drains my strength if it’a really hot. Is that allowed? Can anyone recommend a clamp device? The ones I have found so far on Amazon don’t have the best ratings.

yes this is allowed you might have to take it off for attraction or other things

I actually just got one from Amazon that I plan to clamp to a stadium chair for my daughter's college graduation...it's outdoor due to Covid, but I'm not supposed to be in the sun for long periods because it will make me sick. It is called the sport-brella versa-brella spf 50+ and it gets really good reviews! A couple of people who reviewed it said it was perfect for a wheelchair and it has pictures. It adjusts to different angles too. I'm a little concerned about it working for the stadium seats but hopefully I can figure it out. You may want to look at the pictures to see if you think it will work with your scooter. I will probably bring it to Disney with me in case I can't get an umbrella at the pool!

Don't be surprised if it doesn't work too well... I bought one of those years ago, and it was a huge pain in the butt. It was never facing the way I wanted/needed it to be; as we would move around, the angle of sun constantly changes, and I was constantly stopping to adjust it. In order for it to be even marginally effective, it had to be fairly close to the top of my head, so I had to duck under it to get off of my ECV; this caused a whole different set of problems (nearly fell twice trying get on on/off the scooter with it in place; it took forever if I tried to close it or move it every time we stopped). Far before the end of the first day, I had taken it off my scooter, and we bought me a big, floppy hat at one of the shops.

I still have the hat. The "VersaBrella/SportBrella" is long gone in the trash.

I hate to hear that! That's so disappointing! I hadn't thought about that with the constant changing of direction in a wheelchair/scooter. Mobility isn't currently an issue for me, but I had hoped the umbrella might be an option for me if I find that mobility is now an issue for me at Disney. I hope it will serve my purposes better at graduation since I won't be moving around in the stadium...but of course the sun will be moving since it's a 3 hour event. I will also have UPF 50+ clothing and a hat on, but too much heat and sunlight can make me sick, so maybe the umbrella will help a little at least?? I guess I'll find out.

Please consider the impacts of the umbrella on the view of the people above/behind you. It may not be an issue if people are social distancing in the stadium.

Also consider where you are sitting in the stadium. For example, at Rice (Houston, Texas) the visitor side of the stadium is the east side. For a graduation starting in the morning, I doubt you’d see much sun before 11:15am a May Day if you were on that side. Now it’s brutally hot there at 4:30pm on a September afternoon... the home side can get warm at 11 but is in the shade at 4:30.

Nice of you to think of the other people (I’m that way too). That was actually the first thing I asked when the lady in the graduation office suggested the umbrella, but she said with social distancing and limited capacity in the stadium, it wouldn’t be a problem. Of course, I’d much rather not have to use it anyway, but I have to have a backup plan since it can get really hot here in May...morning is definitely better!

I understand why you want the SPF protection of the VersaBrella, but overall you may be better served by some of the tips in this post: Sun Sensitivity here in this forum.

We have several folks here who need assistance with managing sun/heat - I bet if we all put our heads together (pun intended LOL) we can help you keep yours covered! 😉

Thanks. I already got in on that discussion too lol...ordered some more Coolibar stuff yesterday! Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to hold an umbrella very long because I have tendonitis in my shoulders and elbows which is why I was hoping the Versabrella would work. Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll be cloudy on graduation day or my seat will be in the shade. It hopefully won't be too hot yet because it's unseasonably cool right now. I'm more concerned about the parks Memorial Day weekend since there's no FPs and the lines supposedly stretch out into the sun where they wouldn't normally because of social distancing. Uh oh...here I go hijacking a thread again...my apologies to the OP!

No you are good ☺️ I ordered my clip and I’m going to give it a try. It’s a solo trip and I won’t be riding a lot of rides. I do exactly expect it to be crowded. I was mainly concerned about not being able to find a shade to stop and rest in. I wanted something just in case. We will see 🤷🏻‍♀️
