Um, Disney sent us an extra set of Magic Bands

Like many people, we had one set of hotel reservations that we later canceled and re-booked through Orbitz. We have two rooms. The orginal non-Orbitz reservations disappeared from My Disney Experience . . . or so I thought.

When I went to customize our magic bands, I kept seeing a third reservation that said could not be retrieved. Having no idea what it was, I clicked through and customized magic bands under that reservation.

Then I started wondering what was wrong and if something was totally screwed up.

I called MDE help and the woman said one of the rooms somehow lingered in the system just for purposes of magic bands. She put in an order to cancel it out, but with the holidays etc. it may not be in time. If not, we'd have another set of magic bands.

So here's my question, anyone think these bands are "active" such that we'll be able to use them for a second set of rides or something? Would they have our FP+ already coded in so we could use one set and then ride again using them?

We will try either way, but wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

1. anyone think these bands are "active"

2. such that we'll be able to use them for a second set of rides or something?

1. Yes.
2. No.
3. No.

You only have one MyDisneyExperience account. **
Both sets of MBs will be able to access the same account,
so both sets can be used interchangeably (you can keep one set in your room in case anyone loses a band,)
but the extra bands won't offer any "additional" benefits.

It's like having two credit cards for the same bank account.
Each card will work, but they don't access "twice the money."

------------

**Just to keep things as clear as possible-

There is no reservation info, or ticket info, or credit card info,
or FP+ info "put onto" a MagicBand.

The MagicBands just contain (and weakly "transmit") a unique serial number that is used to access the information that is stored in your MyDisneyExperience computer file.

So, even if you were to lose a MagicBand, the info stays locked in your file.
Disney can just set up a new band (different serial number)
to access the info in your MDE file.
Disney can also issue ADDITIONAL MB's to a guest and each
additional band can be used for the same purposes as the first band.
So, yes, there can be multiple MB's per person, and each of them can be used by that person.

The MagicBand works like the combination to a locked safe, or a key to a locked door.

The MB, itself, is not the file of info or the container of the info.
The MB just unlocks the file of info, allowing it to be accessed from your MDE account when needed.

Um, everyone with more than one set of MagicBands™ raise your right hand...

Yes, I have 10 magic bands and my 11th is on the way. They are all connected to my one MDE account and are, therefore, interchangeable. There is no advantage to having extra magic bands other than the fact that, if you selected different colors for your bands, you can color coordinate with your outfits. Or, if you lose one, you have an extra with your name on it and not just a generic gray one from guest services. If only we could get extra FP+! But, alas, it doesn't work that way.

Do you mean that the MagicBand I used on my last visit (when I stayed onsite) can be worn again during my next visit, even though I'm at an off-site hotel this time?

So, I can use my newly purchased base ticket to get into the park, & then my OLD MagicBand will get me on the 3 rides I've reserved FastPasses for?

1. Yes.

2. The TICKET is what allows you to book 3 rides for which you reserved FastPasses in advance.
The ticket can be used to get into the park and to access FPs.

3. -AND/OR- The (old or new) MBs can be used to get you in the park gates, and access FPs in the park, but the MB is not what enables you to book FPs.

Like Robo has said but If you plan on future visits hang on to them. The little plastic latch prongs break easily and extra bands are nice to have when they do.

And if you are environmental, like me, you can turn in unwanted bands to desk services and request that they be recycled.

Your sarcasm is not appreciated. For those of us trying to navigate our first trip and thus dealing with the big-ridden system for the first time, I've got no clue about these things.

So some of us don't have more than one set of magic bands and never intended to.

Where the heck does all that anger come from?

With the bug-ridden system, you might end up with 5 sets of MagicBands, for all you know.

It would be wasteful to do so before the full battery life of the band has been expended.

By keeping all MBs until their useful life is exhausted, it might preclude the need to issue additional new MBs if a current one should become lost or broken.

Not sure anyone was actually being sarcastic.

Rather, you have entered a club that many of us belong to.

Every unique reservation number you have is going to generate another set of bands. Last January we had four separate reservations/checkins. That's a lot of bands. :)

But I can go further on the weird "where'd these bands come from" scale. Our two one-night reservations through hotels.com had the bands "stuck" and not shipping. Also I had messed up a year ago then more recently and somehow had two sons listed (I only have the one). Tech Support merged my son's names so all his past bands could work and for the bands unstuck. We got both sets. Then suddenly a new son appeared. His first initial and DH's last name (DS is hyphenated). And then the band shipped without customization (I might have accidentally verified address).

So that might end up being strange. :)

LOL! Take it easy there! No sarcasm intended. Just responding to the post above mine because I know lots of folks with quite a few sets of magic bands, including myself. I have a friend who uses hers for Christmas tree garland.

I apologize for the rudeness.

Another twist is that it shows my mom's room in my magic band and cards and in my MDE only -- not hers. So when we made the original reservation she had a different MDE account. She screwed up and somehow made two under different emails. So she starts getting emails to book fastpasses around 30 days out. We have already booked them and did so at 60 days out as we are staying on site.

I go into my MDE, click new fast passes and tried to make some in what was their old names. I had used her middle initial in her second MDE account. So first reservation and MDE was Mary and second was Mary L. It let me book fastpasses for Mary L at 60 days, which is right. But then it let me book for just Mary. I called MDE. They show her as two different people. I asked how I booked fastpasses for a person that can't be found elsewhere with a ticket linked. She had no idea but showed both sets of fastpasses and the system sees them as different people.

I'm sure they won't work for anything extra but it should not have let me book those. Very weird.
