Um, can dogs eat cantaloupe?

'cause mine just ate half of one, rind and all.

I went outside, came back, and it was gone. :confused3

They didn't even bother to look guilty, they were too busy licking their paws.

They're trying to blame the cat.

Oh, that's too cute! At least it's healthy.

Our lhasa eats peas...but not cheese. Any cheese. I thought that was a prerequisite for being a dog.

yes they can :)

I think the only prohibited fruit/veggies is grapes and onions as that will make them sick. (grapes will calls renal failure I think--I forget what the onions do).

We had a dog that loved all kinds of fruit and veggies, except peas. If we mixed peas into his food he would spit them out and you would find the dish empty of all the other food, but all the peas would be there.

My cat loves to lick cantalope.

And in my house, I'd believe them. My cat LOVES sliced Cantaloupe. If I'm not careful, she'll jump up and take it off the counter/table.

call the vet some fruits may be toxic...thats what my cousin told me

My cats eat canteloupe every morning, and now the dogs get a piece as well. I can't look at canteloupe any longer as the lovely fruit I enjoyed so much, now it's PET FOOD! When the two cats (Emmie and Cassie) showed an obsessive interest in canteloupe (and chick peas) at a very young age, the vet told me there was nothing wrong with it, let them enjoy. Now the third cat loves it as well, and if I have cut it off the rind, and the rind is in a bag to be thrown out in the sink, she will take the rind out and gnaw some of the remaining melon off!

I was buying my canteloupe tonight at Target, and the young man at the register was not sure if it was a canteloupe or watermelon :confused3 , when I mentioned cat food, the woman behind me said her dog eats it as well!

I guess all our critters aren't so odd after all!

(She is insanely hungry right now as she has been nursing five kittens and has stolen a package of pork chops out of the shopping bag on the counter when I went out to get the rest of the bags from the garage, and a pack of chicken legs I had on the counter getting ready to prepare them... turned my back for two minutes and she was there!!!)

Hi, just throwing my two cents in here. I have grown Catalope forever in my garden and you always knew when it was ripe as the cats and dog were in there helping themselves to the delectable fruit. They love it and never were harmed. The dog is a Lab. And the cats just your run of the mill farm cats. But you could call your vet to ease your mind if you want. Otherwise better make sure you always have plenty to share now that the dog has gotten a taste of it.

Of course they can, does a...........

my in-laws had schnauwzers (spelling?) and they would eat lettuce, corn on the cob (if you held and turned it for them) and almost any vegetable or fruit.

When they went to Mickey D's my mother-in-law would order a plain hamburger and give to the dog and tear down a cup of ice water for the dog. It got so bad that when they ate hard-shelled crabs they would pick crab meat and put it on a plate for the dogs to eat!

I vowed that our cats would never be spoiled like that and they aren't!

I would be worried about the rind. I had a golden retriever eat corn on the cob, cob and all, he had to have surgery and it was touch and go. He was never the same after that. It was like food didn't process right for him and he aged very quickly. I would call the vet, but thats just me because of my experience.

Found this list. We have the plants printed out and taped to the inside of one of our cupboards.

I didn't know about grapes... she loves chasing them around... Perfect size for her to catch, too

I didn't know that dog's are not suposed to eat apples or apricot. Patches loves them!

I've seen high end dog food with apples in it.

Our dogs love cantelope, bananas, peas, carrots and string beans. I thought we were the only ones with dogs who ate wierd things. One of my dogs loves lettuce as well.

They aren't supposed to have tomatos either. It is the skins from the grapes and tomatos. Dogs can't digest them.

Our Lab not only enjoys cantalope but likes to go to the field of sweetcorn and pick an ear by herself and bring it to the yard and shuck it back and gnaw the corn off it. It is so darn funny watching her, and when she is done she goes back and gets another one and does the same thing. There are usually four or five cobs in the yard a day when the corn is ripe.

Hmmm, we have some cantelope in the fridge - I'll have to try it our with our dog and cat. Our lab/pointer mix enjoys bananas - he'll do any trick for a piece of banana. Glad to see it isn't on the danger list!

That list said it was just the stems, seeds and leaves of apples and apricots (it was in parentheses), so the flesh/fruit part should be OK. I would just peel it for your pet!
