Perhaps someone knows the answer to this one or has experienced the same thing and can guide me on what to do. We go home every Jan/Feb for 8-10 days. We drive down from NJ and basically spend one day driving. We leave on Friday around 4:00am and usually arrive in WDW at about 9:00pm. To get any discount on passes, we have to get the UPH which is good from check-in to check-out. The problem is that the pass is good for all day Friday when we are driving. Is there a way to get the 10% discount on the passes without having to book a separate ressie for Friday and then another ressie for the rest of the week????? Please help!!!!

Jim

No Problem!

You can drop the first (and last, if needed) day from the pass and still get the DVC discount.

Enjoy!

What Doc says is true though it's not the written policy. I do know of those tht were allowed to drop one day but not both though most have been allowed to drop both. BTW, if you change rooms it's considered ONE STAY even if different units, sizes, points vs cash if it's all at one resort.

In your sitaution, I'd be very tempted to buy an annual pass and arrange my trips so that they both fell in the same 12 month perios. For example, go in February, 2003 and schedule the 2004 trip to be in January (or February if you can complete it before the AP expires). Even if you visit a water park or two or go to PI and pay separately for those, it's likely you will spend less on admission than if you get the LOS with the 10% discount. We do this whenever we can and also purchase a Disney Club membership to get a discount on APs. Use the DC for other discounts while at WDW and at TDS as well, so that pays for itself. JMHO. You will have to do the math for your own situation.

I also get the Disney Club card to get discounts on tickets, but I also use it for a discount on the rent-a-car where it really pays off.

If you do decide to join the Disney Club you can receive a discount on Park Hopper and Park Hopper Plus tickets. We usually visit for 10 to 14 days in January, but we don't like to spend all our time in the parks. So we purchase a 7 day Park Hopper Plus pass that allows for 7 days at the park and 4 days at the Auxiliary parks. We'll use it for 3 Park days and 2 auxiliary parks one year, and 4 Park days and 2 auxiliary parks the next.

We then use the rest of our time to visit friends in Florida as well as to visit Universal and some of the other little attractions in Florida like the Titanic exhibit, Ripleys, etc.

You might prefer to use the parks every day, but I thought I'd let you know how we deal with it, just to give you another perspective. Personally, I don't think I would get my money's worth out of the UPH, even with the discount, but I'm sure lots of people do!

We'll be down there 1/21 through 1/31. Maybe we'll bump into you!:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

17 hours? A bit of a speed demon!

Anyway...I would take the advice of CarolMN and schedule your trip in February 2003 and 2004's in January...and then buy an Annual pass.

The nice thing about an AP with DVC is you can use the AP to get discounted weekend rooms & then just use your points for Sun to Thurs. Check Mousesavers.com to get an idea of how little a room can cost you under the current AP promotion.

Plus...if you want to take a sponteneous trip some other time of the year (a food & wine weekend, flower & garden show, mickey's not so scarey, even christmas...) you already have your pass. I've spent this entire year checking out my DVC membership with an AP to go with it...last trip is end of October where I am abutting it to a stay at AKL at $169 per night.

Otherwise...I've spent years piggybacking one regular park hopper on top of another & it's worked great. Two 7 day hoppers gives you 14 park days over 3 years....plus 8 small park days. I

We use CarolMN's tactics too. It means we get the DC discount for the APs and use them for about 20-24 days each pass. That works out to about $12 a day. Then we buy new AP vouchers when we get home, so we get then before the January price increase! That usually saves us a few bucks too. The key to that is to use your passes just under 365 days over the two trips. Then you take 12 months off and start the cycle over again. I even mark our AP dates on my point tracking chart. It helps when planning future trips.

Have you ever thought about driving through the night? We go down once or twice a year and I wouldnt do it any other way(and ive tried both day and night).
1. no rush hour
2. no construction or very little
3. no food stops- everybody is sleeping
4. fewer potty breaks- just when we stop to get gas
5. less talking - that could be good or bad

It takes us 13 hours to get to WDW. Just for a reference it takes us 2hours and 30 minutes to pass Kings Dominion.

Arrive in the morning get your pass and go lay around at a water park, then check in, then go catch illuminations.
