Day 5- Tuesday, June 9th - The Family Splits Up
Since we were out so late the night before, it was planned that today would be a sleep-in day. Also today was the day that Jack was to go off and do his own thing. So, he got up earlier than the rest of us and headed off for some teenage adventure of his own.
The rest of us had a lazy-ish morning. Ate some cereal, got dressed, and headed for another first for us, a day at
Downtown Disney (DTD). After a short wait for a bus at the depot, we arrived at DTD. We went through a few of the gift shops and did some browsing, and then headed to
Goofys Candy Company.
Here we each picked one of their made-while-you-wait treats:
Clockwise,starting from left corner:
Peanut Butter Sandwich cookie dipped in milk chocolate, rolled in Butterfinger, and drizzled with white chocolate
Pretzel Rods dipped in milk chocolate, rolled in Oreo crumbs, and drizzled with milk chocholate
Rice Krispy Mickey Ears dipped in milk chocolate, rolled in Butterfinger crumbs, and then drizzled with caramel.
Marshmallows on a bendy straw dipped in milk chocolate, rolled in Butterfinger, and drizzled with dark chocolate
You fill out a little form with your selections and then watch them create them for you. Yummo!
We played a little pass the plate game, so we each got to try all of the treats.
Next we headed over to
Pin Traders where I purchased some lanyards for everyone, and picked up a couple of new pins: a graduation one for Jack and a Fathers Day one for Crashdad.
Next stop was
Once Upon a Toy, because I had read that you can get the Build-Your-Own-Lightsabers there. Crashdad and Peter spent a while over there assembling a duel-bladed (one green, one red) lightsaber. It was a bit of a challenge. Some of the pieces were all mixed up, or missing things. Finally, they got it together. Then Belle decided that she wanted one, but I realized that she really only wanted one because her brother got one. That was when I spotted the Design-Your-Own Princess Crowns, and knew that she would much rather get one of those. Of course, I was right, and Crashdad got out of saber assembly duty.
Soon, she had picked out her crown and accessories and we were paying for our selections. We had them sent back to Boardwalk, for pick-up later, so that we would not have to lug them around. We were headed toward the
Lego store when Belle realized that she had lost her sunglasses. So we headed back to Once Upon a Toy, to find them. Luckily, they still had them!! Yet another lost and found item for the Kool-Aid Family
loverly.
Finally, we made it to the Lego Store. Peter was thrilled. The boys went off to play with the legos, while Belle and I headed over to the McDonalds to pay 2.31 for a medium Diet Coke!!
We brought our expensive Diet Coke back to the benches by the
Lego store and then I took this shot of Peter!
Could there be anything better to an 8-yr old boy than Legos AND Dinosaurs??? BTW this thing moves a little bit every few minutes.
Next, we decided to head over to the West Side to the
Virgin Records Megastore. Crash had heard that he might be able to find a charger for his cell phone (which he thought that he had packed) there. As we were walking along, one of those famous pop-up rain showers of Florida formed. So, we headed into a little place called
Cookes of Dublin to wait out the rain. Never knew this place existed. They have fish and chips, and such. No one was hungry since our great Candy Pig Out at Goofys, but we felt weird taking up space in this place with buying anything. So, we ordered a side order of chips and a drink to share. They were good! They would have been better had we actually been hungry, but they were good. In no time, the little rain cloud was gone and we were back on track.
We marched on through
Pleasure Island and stopped at the restrooms by the bridge that leads to
West Side. When we came back out, it was raining very lightly again. We decided to just keep walking in the rain. Soon, we made it to the West Side, and stopped at a magnet store. Here I bought 2 miniature construction cone paperweights for work. One read: I Cant Fix Stupid, the other: Back Away From My Desk. I kept the second one and gave the first one to my co-worker. When we are having one of those days, we go Cones Out for the day.
As we headed closer to the Megastore, it started to rain harder again. We went inside and quickly found the cell phone charger. We looked around a bit and then went to leave, only to realize that it was storming like crazy now. So, we went upstairs and found some couches to sit on, and read some magazines. Before long, we could hear thunder shaking the building. Crash headed downstairs and heard some talk about a small rope tornado located somewhere between Epcot and Celebration, FL. In other words, not terribly far from us. So, we just stayed at the Megastore for about 2 hours and waited out the storm. Ironic that we outran storms in Kansas to get to Florida, only to encounter a tornado
nearby-ish. LOL
I kept going back downstairs to get cell reception to contact Jack and make sure that he was safe. He told me that he was riding the People Mover (I mean, Tomorrowland Transit Authority) earlier with Warwick Davis family. He said that they got off, but he stayed on, due to the rain. He got stuck on the People Mover for a bit and that they had shut down Space Mountain, so he got to see the inside with the lights on.
Here his video of that:
Soon, the storm died down enough that we decided to head back to the Boardwalk Villas. It was still raining a bit, but not too hard. There was a bus waiting at the depot on the West Side, even!! The challenge was finding dry seats, but we did.
Soon we were back home at the Boardwalk, and I served up some Albacore tunafish sandwiches. I called Jack to see if he wanted to come back home for a sandwich, but he was having fun with a GIRL that he met from HAWAII.
Note: they are both Jack Skellington fans.
Story goes that they met and hung out most of the day with her family. Yep he ditched one family to join another, for a pretty girl. Poetry. More about our lover boy later.
After resting for a while, we decided to head down to the Boardwalk and see what was up down there. We got a few treats, including the BEST EVER funnel cake, with a slice of vanilla on top. This really was a tasty treat, and very different from any other funnel cake I have ever tried. The batter was lighter and airier, seemed less greasy than the typical fair funnel cake. It was delish!
We headed over to the
Character Carnival to pick up some packages from the other day, then we stopped into the
Wyland Galleries to see the gorgeous paintings and sculptures there. There was a painted guitar hanging there that was autographed by B.B. King. Except that is when we decided to leave posthaste, because my DD that seriously-knows-better decided to strum the strings!!!! She didnt do any damage to it, but I was so mad at her for even touching it, that I hauled her out of there as fast as possible. I was mortified. It was time to go back to the room.
A few minutes later, I was relaxing in the Jacuzzi tub and letting the jets massage my tired feet. It was heavenly! Crash decided to try it next. Eventually everyone had bathed or showered and we settled back to watch TV. I called Jack to check on him and he was going to watch Spectro with Hawaiian girl and family. Midnight rolls around and no Jack, so I called him again. This time he says that he is on the Monorail heading back to the Magic Kingdom bus depot. He said that he went to the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC). He knows better, or at least, should. What it really boils down to was that he just wanted to ride the monorail with Miss Hawaii. BTW, they still talk and text each other from time to time.
I got up to go to the bathroom, and realize that he has slipped into the room and into bed already. He was doing a fabulous job of pretending to be asleep as well. Since Belle and Peter really were asleep, I turned around and went back to bed. There was "extensive discussion" about these events the next morning, needless to say.
