Woo Hoo I think my subject matter played a big part in my photo winning this week The standard is very high across the board and it's becoming increasingly more difficult to chose.

There were some good shots there, and as it was my first week of looking at this, I wasnt really sure how I would be voting....In the end, I decided that as there were so many I liked, I would be more strict on what more fit the chosen category "family", so I gave higher marks to good photos that had more of a "family" (ie multiple people) on them, rather than individual family members.

Congratulations, Alan, on winning the photo competition. Yours was my choice and as I said on the discussion thread when you first posted it, everyone else might as well concede. Joseph looking at his first parade was unbeatable, even by the adorable children featured in the other entries. But come on, Alan, admit it--with such a handsome little face showing the unmistakeable sense of wonder looking at a Disney parade (the sort of thing we all love), all you had to do was point and click that shutter, right? Thanks to all who took the time to enter and share your precious family memories. I've enjoyed the artistic and scenic entries from previous photo competitions, but this one with the happy (cute!) faces is my favorite so far.

You're right Susan it was pretty much a point and click exercise. What I did like about the end result though was the fact that Kaylee was just out of focus which I think helped to give a nice sense of depth to the end result

You know I was kidding you, Alan. Your skills as a photographer were very apparent in this shot. As you said, the soft focus of Kaylee's joyfully beaming face in the background showed depth--and it also provided the family context. That picture was indeed worth a thousand words in a good trip report.
