UK car seats in the US

I have been reading so much about the bring your own/rent a car seat debate and have made the decision to take our own car seat with us. It suddenly dawned on me the other day, that I had made my decision based on American folks views, without questioning if our UK car seat will be legal/safe in the US. Does anyone know if UK car seats can be used in the US or will I have to hire? Thanks

May I suggest that you post on the transportation board? Restate your post and mention which brand and model you have and I bet someone will be able to help you. I know this question has come up with Canadians before.

We have this question alot on here You will get different views. Some people do take their own cars seat with them and others hire them with the car over there.

We are lucky enough to get a free car seat with our car cover through Dollar. We did think about taking our own but we were advised not to due to their seats fitting a different way to ours and the laws being much more strict over there.the best people to contact is the company who make your car seat and see if they can give you any advice

We've never taken our UK car seat to the states, but when we moved here we brought our US car seat with us and we weren't able to fit it in our car! So it's quite probable that UK car seats won't fit in the US cars!

we took our britax eclipse car seat over with us last year and it fitted fine, no problems at all. A lot of makes of car seats we haveover here (britax, graco etc.) are all brands available in the US

We have a Britax lightweight seat which we have used for the past three years and fits all the US cars we have had no problem.

Go for a lightweifght one as it is less to carry
