This is being discussed over on the UK boards but I thought I would post here too.
All UK airports are currently closed and all air travel suspended over UK air space from 12:00 BST (25 mins ago) until at least 18:00 BST. This is because of a volcanic erruption in Iceland and the cloud of volcanic dust this is creating. Air space is also closed over other parts of Northern Europe. This in turn is effecting flights all over Europe today.

This is major news in the UK today. It is the 1st time ever all UK air space has been closed. Even after 9/11 only transatlantic flights and London airports closed, the rest of UK air space stayed open.
