Well, I found out that I'm going to get a visit from Aunt Flow 2 days before my wedding! :scared1:

What on earth do I do? I've already got to lose 3 pounds to fit in my dress, is it going to fit with all that bloating? And oh lord....my honeymoon :guilty: This is not good news at all

Did this ever happen to anyone else?

:lmao: I've been worrying about this same thing and have been tracking my cycle fastidiously...if my body stays normal I'll just be getting home from my honeymoon before it starts...of course that means I'll be PMSing like mad during the honeymoon...poor hubby! :rotfl2:

Okay, I don't know if you are on birth control pills or not, but if you are, just ask your gyno if you could skip the sugar pill week and continue on with regular birth control pills...it's totally safe and actually Seasonale brand pills do just that! That's what my best friend did for her wedding! If you are not on BC pills...maybe you want to think about it? ;) Other than that I don't know how you will fool with Mother nature... :hippie: ;)

good luck!!!

Would love to know the answer since I will be in the same situation when I get married on 9/29. I was thinking of asking my dr. about going back on the depo shot for a few months to stop auntie from visiting.

Are you, by chance, on the pill? This was my dilemma before my first wedding and my doctor just switched around my pills which then changed when I would start!

Good Luck!!

I don't really have any answers for you. If you are on the pill, you could ask your gyno if it is possible to start the next pack right away to avoid having your monthly visit. I am going to talk to my doctor about it. I am scheduled to get my visit a few days after the wedding, but I don't want to be bloated and achy. Good luck!

I know that with birth control, if you skip the last week of sugar pills, and just start a new pack instead, you can skip a period. I've read some articles about it and I don't think it does any harm, but many women don't like to mess with mother nature, which is understandable. If you're not too concerned with messing w/nature, then that's definately a way to avoid it!! HTH!! ;)

I guess I should have mentioned that I am deathly allergic to birth control pills.

Ladies this is real and it has happened to others. There is a 1 in 2,000 chance that you have this allergy

In my early teens I took BC for acne. Within 4 days of taking them I was in the hospital for brain and spinal cord swelling. They told my parents I had spinal meningitis and that they didn't think I was going to make it. After a spinal tap, CT scan and MRI it turned out that the overdose of hormones caused an imbalance in my body and began to shut it down. And they were the Ortho-Tri Low dose!

Thanks for the advice anyway guys. I guess after 2 days the bloating may go down some. You are all so sweet!

Well, I just got some good news. On another forum someone said that my OB can either do something called an "extraction" or I can get a pill to reduce bloating and pain. I'm hoping that my OB will do either of those for me. Thanks girls!

Oh my!! I'm so sorry that you went through that!! How terrible...You definately don't need to be taking any birth control!! I wonder if you could take some Midol when you start to feel bloated. I've taken it before and it seems to take the edge off. Hope all works out for you!!

:yay: OH oh I know I know!!! You could hang out with a bunch of girls who are on different cycles...that always changes things for me!!! I swear, every time I visit my sisters my cycle changes!

Serioulsy though, I am so sorry that you had such a bad experience with BC pills...I don't take them cuz I'm afraid of the weight gain...of course my DF always says "Well if you don't take them and get pregnant, talk about weight gain..." isn't he FUNNY?! :rolleyes2 :lmao:

You know, I have NO idea how this works, but I swear I now think it does! Kate moved home after Katrina, before her wedding. About three months before her wedding, she got on BC to avoid future honeymoon woes and my cycle changed to match hers... by several weeks! I guess when she was younger, we just thought it was coincidence that we were always on our cycle at the same time. I'd heard rumors about that happening in households, but never believed them until at 44 years old, I was having two cycles a week apart. Needless to say, I wasn't too happy! Does anybody have ANY idea how that happens?!

I don't know how it works but back in high school it would seem like all of us girls (whether it was field hockey, soccer, or softball) would be on our cycles at the same time, or atleast within a week of eachother. I remember one game when we were discussing it prior to the start of the game and there must have been 8/14 of us all on our cycles!

Back to the topic, sorry to hear about your reaction to BC pills. I have never heard of anything like that before. My greatest concern was the possible weight gain. I hope that your OB is able to provide a few options for you. When ever I hear about someone receiving their period on their wedding day I think of '16 Candles' and the sister strung out on muscle relaxers.

Well, I have no idea if this works or not, but my friend insists that sucking on lemons makes your period late. Like I said, I have no idea if that's an old wives tale or what, but she says it works for her.

Good luck! I have a friend who is also HIGHLY allergic to BC so I know that is real and it's horrible - don't mess with it if you're allergic! I moved my BC pills around so I would have it right before the wedding, and I was staying at my daddy's that week anyway, so no PMS or anything for the wedding or honeymoon. Moving them around is safe, I've done it many many times, but only your doctor can tell you for sure if it's o.k. for you, as each person is different.

As for your period "adjusting" it is true. I always seem to determine when my co-workers and friends get theirs. I'm glad it's not the other way around :)

It's actually kind of gross but the reason that our body switches our cycle to that of other women around us, is because we can "smell" the pheromones being put out by the other women. Hormones are very powerful agents that are in everything around us, just something to remember....(don't microwave plastic or sarane (sp) wrap bc the hormones will leach into the food)

Talk to your gyno. Maybe u could try depo, its different than the pill. Talk to ur dr and see if there's anyway you could fix that from happening, if there's anyway to fix it, she'll know

Depo, the pill, patch, and ring are all the same thing. They are all human extracted hormones. I'm not even allowed to have the animal hormones in chicken. I guess I'm just stuck...oh well

Us too! My basketball team was like that. 16/17 were on the same cycle!! We figured it out one night after the game when all the girls had to run to the bathroom for the same reason. :lmao: It's crazy how that works!!

Okay, just a crazy idea here. If phermones are the reason why women who work closely or cohabitat end up on the same cycle, could using some of that phermone spray trigger your ovulation (and thus your period) earlier? Or would you be allergic to the phermones too? Like I said, crazy idea... but crazy or not, would it work?

I have no idea but there is no way I would risk it. I almost died and if hadn't been for the reseach team at Emory University in Atlanta I would have. I would have to call my doc there and ask, but it really isn't worth it. I suppose since it is a natural part of life I just need to suck it up and deal with it. Things could be a lot worse
