uh, is it normal if you put alchohol on your face and it gets hot and swollen?

i have a cold sore on the corner of my mouth, and my dad gave me.. isoprophal alchohol to place on it because he said it helps a little bit. well, my face keeps getting hot and swollen to where my smile is crooked cause i cant move half of my mouth.

is it normal, or is it a reaction of some sort?

also with orajel, my dad said it might be able to help the pain a bit by numbing it.. it also gets swollen.
