Oh my...........this morning as I was washing clothes my kitchen sink overflowed! I didn't think much of it, because we had dishes in the sink, so I cleared them out and let it drain and kept on washing. Then it did it again! So after some investigating, we notice that there is a puddle of water in our front yard At 1st we thought maybe the drain was clogged, but my DH has taken it off from under the sink, and it is not. It is not affecting our other drains, in the bathrooms, so hopefully it is just the drain from the kitchen. I have a call into a plumber who is going to come and look tomorrow afternoon. But the way my neighbor is talking, it is my main water pipe that has busted (sob)please prepare me for what is going to happen? Has this happened to you before? How long did it take to fix? How much was it? I know every case is different, but if you have been through this before please let me know. I am so upset right now, I am less than 2 weeks away from having our 4th child, and I have my family coming in on Wednesday. Right now, my sink, dishwasher and washer are out of commission! THe worst part is that all our clothes that had been on the laundry room floor are soaked! Including all our bedspreads! We were in the middle of spring cleaning, as I had stripped all the beds of their linens and blankets

Sounds like the last thing you need to deal with right now! A few years ago, after I did a load of wash, our basement toilet (the closet plumbing outlet to the main stack) started gurgling and overflowed even though it hadn't been flushed. Our inside sewer line was very old and had totally gotten closed up with gunk. The plumber had to dig up the basement floor and put a new line in. (It was over $2,000, I think.) We couldn't use the kitchen sink, dishwasher, washer, downstairs bathroom for a week. Fortunately we were able to use the upstairs bathroom. It sounds like your situation might be a little different with that puddle of water out front. Hope it's just a minor problem that can be fixed easily, quickly - and cheaply!

UGH..I am still so upset about this right now. My dh has taken some of the wet clothes to a friends house to wash them. We can dry them here. What gets me is that it happens now?? Why now?? Why not 6 months ago? Or heck even 1 month ago?? But less than 2 weeks b4 my due date??? I need some of you all out there that see the good in things to help me out. This was over 3 hours ago that we found this out, and I am still so sad about it. I just think about how bad it is going to be, how long we are going to be out of water, how am I going to along without laundry during that time?/ETC ETC ETC

I'm so sorry, but I am glad that it isn't your whole house. Try to take it easy. I'm sure it will all turn out okay in the end. I have no advice, but here is a big hug for you.

Well, if it's anything like my situation, the pipe broke a long time ago but, things have just been clogging and collecting in the drain pipe all this time. My situation was also kitchen/washer when it finally 'blew'. It was awful and, we went about 2 days total without water.

Approx. cost, $5,600.00 (If it helps, ours happened about a month before our WDW trip! Real bummer!) :(

Hope your's isn't that bad.

That happened at my mom's house several years ago. The city fixed the water line and Rotor-Rooter got rid of the root of the tree that broke the pipe. It was only around $200.

Disnee Dad Says.................................Remember, it is only money.
Easy for me to say, except about four years ago I had a plumbing problem with a rental that cost a little over $5,000. As I fretted and worried, I realized it was only money. No one in my family was killed or dieing, no kidnapings or rapes, or any of the other horrific things that can happen. That's when I realized it was only money. You need to realize that too, and be calm so baby gets a nice entrance into the world!

Forget about why it's happening now, forget about wondering and worrying. Just do what you have to do and stay calm. It's isn't going to change things if you are upset about everything, so relax and just do what you gotta do. :)

THanks guys:( I am a worry wart by nature. I hate that about myself! All I can do is sit here and worry about how bad it is going to be. Does anyone know if homeowners insurance will cover something like this? Of course, I am talking about if we get up into the 1000's. I believe anything under 1500 I will just take the hit, and go on. I won't be too happy about it, but I will do what I have to do. What has me the most worried is if it is like KimRayes and Disnee Dad's situation, and it is $5000 or more. What the heck do people do in these situations? We are a fairly new "house" family. We have only been living here for 6 years and have never had anything so drastic happen here. THis house is only about 12-13 years old. The plumber will not be here til later this afternoon. I have an OB checkup scheduled for the same time he is suppoed to be here, so I am going to try to call the OB and see if I can come in earlier. ( fingers crossed) I appreciate everyones kind words, and examples of what happened to them or someone they know. It helps to know that this happens to other people, and they can get through it.

It cost us $2000 for our yard to be dug up and new lines to be put in. good luck :)

I'm not sure with your drains backing up, that it's a water problem versus a sewer problem. I'm anxious to hear what the plumber says. We have two drains in our house, a septic drain that drains our toilets, and another drain that is just for the washer, kitchen, sinks, and shower...

Now if it's the water main:

My parents just noticed a 'wet spot' on their lawn a few days ago. They called the city and the city plumber came out and said because it was on their side of the shut-off valve, it was their responsibility. I would check to make sure that the city may not be responsible for it - ask the plumber that you have come out.

It's going to cost them $2300 to have it fixed and are just waiting for the permits to be filed so the work can start.

On the flip side, the city accidentally crushed the water line of a neighbor of theirs with some heavy equipment and repaired it no charge.

So, keeping my fingers crossed for you.

We've got the same problem here! Crossing my fingers that the Borough can fix it. My allergies are so bad that I just cant' think straight.

The plumber I had called to come on Monday afternoon NEVER showed up! SO I was even more upset. My babysitter had called to check on me and my pregnancy, and I mentioned to her what was going on. It turns out she had a plumbing "man" that she us
Bless es often. She told me she would call him and see what he thought and if he could come over the next day. Bless her heart, she must of made him feel real sorry for me because he came over THAT evening and it was about 7pm! He took a look at things, and said he truly believed it was just grease build up in the pipes. He "snaked" it, I think that is what it was called, said his snake was 75ft, and it went the whole length, so he says that was the problem. I was sooooooooooo thankful, he charged my $90 to do this, and now I have a plumbing "man" to call if ever needed :Pinkbounc I thought it was back up at 1st, but what scared me was the puddle of water out front. I pointed it out to him, and he said there may be a small leak in the drain pipe, and the backup just caused the water tho build up out of that leak, but he said not much to worry about since it is the drain pipe. THANK the LORD! I was sooooooooooo worried!
