Just washed the kids' sheets and my DD's IPod touch got thrown in with them: (

I'm not hopeful but is rice the best thing to try?

If it doesn't resurrect, any deals on IPod touches? She has an IPad mini but uses the touch for texting and alarm. Unfortunately it was engraved for her by my ex. Ugh. I feel awful.

Make sure that it is turned off before sticking it in the rice. Leave it in the rice for about 5 days without attempting to turn it on. If it is going to survive the washing machine, this is your best hope.

I just purchased a refurbished 64 GB 5th Gen. iPod Touch from Apple for $299, delivered to the store. They would also ship for free but I didn't want to pay sales tax, so I had it sent to their Delaware store. However, engraving is not possible on refurbished items. If getting it engraved is essential, you pretty much have to purchase it new from Apple and pay the full retail price. They are currently offering 6 months' interest-free financing on purchases of $499 or less. You can check the Applestore website for details.

You might also want to ask your ex if he purchased any kind of insurance for the iPod. I know that Square Trade has saved my butt numerous times when the kids have dropped their iPhones in the sink or commode. I don't think that Apple Care covers water damage but Square Trade does. It would be worth asking about.

If the rice trick doesn't work (leave it in and don't open to check it for a week) since the iPod was engraved, i would get another from Apple and have it engraved with the original text. Would ex be agreeable to put in a few dollars so you can get one engraved?

Definitely try the rice, hopefully you did that immediately. No deals on the iPods that I am aware of, besides the refurbs. Good luck!

Apple sells refurbished stuff on their website. That's the best deal I have found.

Thanks! Just found a 32 gb 5th generation for $219. Only in black though. I'll keep my eye on this and maybe we'll have a miracle before I have to replace hers.

The stock seems to change quickly so if the rice doesn't work hopefully you will find the color she has. They probably are low on refurbished stock because of the holidays. There were a few threads here on buying refurbished from apple. It's probably a popular choice this time of year.

Even better than rice (I imagine you can get to rice quicker so stick it in there) is silica beads. They're what's in those little packets in some foods and other stuff to pull moisture out. You may have to order online but it's still cheaper than a new iPod touch! Good luck!

If it gives you some hope, my son's ipod touch has been washed 3x and still works fine. The third time it took a couple of weeks for the moisture in the screen to go away. We have a front loader so its not submerged in water the whole time, but they can be surprisingly tough! We also did rice in a baggie for a week to dry it out.

Depending on how old it is Apple might repair it for less than the cost of replacing it. We washed my DH's nano and they fixed it for half the cost of a new one.

We have a front loader too! That's some good news: )

Thanks for all the advice, everyone! It's in rice and I'm not touching it for a week.

I told her dad who was annoyed but stuff happens.

Not sure if it doesn't work if I will replace it (probably will out of guilt although she's taken it very well) or wait because I'm guessing her dad will eventually get her a phone (probably an IPhone 5c). She probably can survive : ) with just an IPad mini for now.

My iPod Shuffle got accidentally washed a couple of years ago, and instead of putting it in rice my parents put it in the grill to dry out. Did the job, but I wouldn't recommend it. The rice thing works the best- worked a treat with a Blackberry phone that got a unexpected bath.

My DD ipod touch got sat on at a sleepover and she had the white screen. We looked at several options and ended up at the apple store where they sold us a reburished one for 100.00 bucks. They kept the old one I am sure to reburish it then sell it. Her was a 4th generation.

Thanks! I may check that out too! Apple store is just around the corner.

Hate to be Debbie Downer but I put my iphone in the load of sheets too. I kept the phone off, left it in rice for 5 days, then took It apart and really let it dry out for another day. Unfortunately it never fully recovered and it was cheaper to just buy a new phone than it was to fix it.

Ditto the refurb 4G for $99...DS' stopped charging over the summer and we took it to Apple who said they would replace it for $99. We didn't have the funds then and when we did, we couldn't find it. It just turned up today and we have an appointment Friday to go to the store and replace it. :cool1: Especially glad because we got him a docking station and several ITunes cards for Hanukkah.

Good luck with the dry-out, hope it works!

Also to give you hope:). I washed and dried my sons iPod unknowingly:(. When I realized we immediately put it on a bag of rice for over a week. When we took it out it work fine:). I was amazed that it still worked!!! Out washer was a regular one where the iPod was submerged too! Amazing!!!
