Uggg Shopping For New Cell Phone Family Plan

My family uses tracfone, we get a family plan that is around $42 a month for five of us. I like it because I think it teaches my kids some responsibility, because I make them save so many minutes a month "for me" then they can use the rest how they like, they can also add minutes themselves if they get extra money (chores, birthdays, etc.)

Some of their friends act like they are "entitled" to their phone plans, but my kids seem to really appreciate the minutes when they are added each month.

Watching this thread with interest. We, too, have Verizon. Service has been good, but really disliking my $204/mo. cell phone bill. We do have 5 phones on it, one with a data plan. I've been holding off on getting my next new 'free' phone, as we all know it's not really free when you have to commit to another 2 year extension on your contract. Have had TMobile in the past, and found too many areas that did not get their signal (including in our house, at times!). I've been watching phones on Ebay that are not data-plan needed phones, as a way to avoid that 2 year extension.

We have US Cellular and have been very happy with them. My plan is:

$89.99 for national plan with 1400 anytime minutes (DH uses his phone for business so we need a lot of minutes)
$19.99 for unlimited texting for all the phones
$9.99 for DD's phone
$9.99 for DS's phone

Both kids have data plans on their phones that they pay for ($19.99 each).

Nights are free after 7 pm
Weekends are free
All incoming calls and texts are free

Look at Virgin Mobile. Virginmobileusa.com. I switched from a Verizon Family plan and pay less than half and I added unlimited data. $25 a month for voice, unlimited text, unlimited data.

VM operates on Sprint's network. If friends have coverage with Sprint, VM should be the same. They have a map and exact address lookup on line to see how the 3 G is your area.

I recommend you find a friend with whatever service you are considering and make sure you have good reception in the places you are most likely to make calls. Both T-Mobile and Verizon have issues at my house. We found T-Mobile's family plan to be the best deal. Know what questions you should ask and ask them. For instance, ask about unlimited everything and compare the cost of limited because IF you go over, it's gonna cost ya.
