We’re a family of 5 planning to use Uber XL to get from the airport to the port later this month. We’re flying in a day early for our cruise and spending the night near Port Canaveral. I just read that Uber drivers are unlikely to accept a ride to the port because it’s too far considering they might not have riders for their return ride to Orlando. Can anyone let me know if Uber is a reliable way to get to the port, or if another method of transportation is better? Thank you.

You might be able to find a driver, but if not what is your back up plan? It will probably cost a little extra, but it makes sense to book a car service.

Yes, that’s what we’re thinking. We haven’t used Uber before so it hadn’t occurred to me that there may not be drivers for that distance. If that’s the case, I want to arrange for a car service or shuttle now.

We used Tiffany Car Service and it was great and stress free. You can book Online.

Are you looking for round trip transportation or just one-way.

There are many shuttle companies that charge $20/per person one way and give a discount for round trip. That will be cheaper than any car service.

If you're 5 for sure go with a shuttle/limo service... we use Happy Limo (google them)
Last time they charged $200 for a suburban (each way)... plus tip it's $230-240
If you take the DCL bus it'd cost you around $200... for $40 difference you have a car and chauffeur to yourself and your family instead of being shoulder to shoulder with strangers.. plus it's way more comfortable and they'll pick you up whenever you want.. 100% worth it, especially during these covid times.

Thanks for the replies! Looks like this won’t be the time to give Uber a try. I’ll book a car service and we’ll be all set.

Our family of 5 took an Uber from the Boardwalk resort to the port the morning of our cruise and had no issues. This was February 2020 just before the shut down, so not sure about now.

I have not taken Uber from MCO to Port Canaveral, but I did once take an Uber from Tampa (where I was for a conference) to MCO, which is about the same distance. I think it was way easier (and probably cheaper) than a car service or renting a car.

I recommend calling the driver once you are matched with a driver to tell them that it will be a long ride - I would guess that many or most drivers would be happy to take it since it's such a big fare (even taking into account the return trip).

Okay, so it sounds like some people are having success booking an Uber. It is cheaper and more flexible, but we do want reliability.

How much is the cost of the Uber? Trying to compare to the $90 USD rate I got for car rental from MCO to drop off at the port

the cost of an uber can change according to supply and demand at the time you need to go. For an estimate go to the uber app and enter the date/time you want to go and see what it says.
