I have a conference in Orlando and I decided to take a few extra days for myself! I am staying onsite Saturday - Wednesday and need to get to the Rosen Shingle Creek for my conference. I am traveling solo this trip and am trying to keep things easy so I'm taking magical express from the airport and not renting a car. Uber would probably be the least hassle but I've never used it before so it makes me a bit nervous. I've used cabs in Orlando and know they are plentiful and I can schedule ahead. I have all day Wednesday free so I could rent a car and do some offsite shopping and eat someplace with a few more veggies than I would find onsite but not sure about rental places in the Universal area where I could drop it off. Any help and thoughts is appreciated.

Because it's newer many people are cautious, but you should have no issue with Uber. Ive been a driver, but not in Orlando. You have to keep the car clean, there are multiple background checks and driver license checks. Because they are not parked out side the resort it may take ten minutes or so to get to you, so call ahead.

They will give you an ID of the driver, the vehicle, and you can watch its location as it heads and arrives at your pick up. Check the Internet, there are codes for $20 off the first ride. You don't have to tip, but if the car and ride are pleasing, it's often appreciated.

Thanks! Im used to either having my own car or not heading offsite in Orlando. I'm over thinking this too much.

I am doing the same thing - one night at Beach Club then onto one of the Convention Center hotels for a conference. I plan to take a cab. If there isn't one waiting on front of the hotel, the valet parking person will call one for me.

Uber is the way to go here. Taxis are over priced, bad service (in my opinion) and just not concerned with anything other than their tips. Uber is by far cheaper, upwards of 40-60% cheaper in just random tests I did from our place in Dr. Phillips to spots we frequent in Orlando and Disney.

I have never had to wait longer than 15 minutes for an Uber driver in Orlando even on Disney property. I will never take a taxi again as long as I can help it with Uber.

Is there a way to estimate cost of Uber? I guess I also need to create an account with them too.

Yes. And, yes.

Register an account and there is a button called just that, 'Estimate Fare'. It will say something like $8 - $12 as an example.
