Can someone explain to me why there is a delivery & service fee? Between the two, it's over $11 & we still need to tip. The delivery & service fees seem redundant to me.

I've never used their service but is the reason possibly mentioned in the FAQ on their site?

It may be. I only read far enough to see that the service fee doesn't include the tip. If no one has a quick answer, I'll take time to look into it further eventually.

Maybe the delivery fee goes to the driver and the service fee goes to Uber? I really don't know but that might be how they have it set up so everyone makes money.

I've stopped using food delivery because of the high fees. I was homebound for 4 month for a broken ankle and got a lot of home deliveries. The one that stood out the most was a meal of 2 entrees from a local restaurant for about $45, but after the fees and tips, the total was about $70 !! I think that was doordash.

I assume one fee goes to the restaurant and the other goes to the delivery company. I don't think the driver sees a dime of either (but if anyone else knows differently, please let us know!)

I know a restaurant owner in my town. He has to pay to use the service. You can't use a coupon when you order from Uber, but still, they charge the fee. I choose my restaurants dependent on the fees I am charged.

I used it once and that is it. I refuse to pay that price of food again. I don't know where all those fees go.

Hmmm.... It sounds like the fees pay the driver. So, the tip would be like giving a nominal tip to a typical Uber driver that wouldn't be based on the price of the food.

Do most of you tip the Uber Eats driver, upon delivery? We have been, but I'm now confused on whether or not it's expected.

I use door dash but I tip in cash when they deliver because I recently found out that they pretty much screw the drivers if you tip on the app- they pay the drivers 5.00 for the delivery, if you tip 3.00 then door dash pays them 2.00 plus your 3.00 so it equals 5.00. If you tip 4.00 then door dash pays them 1.00 which equals the 5.00. So I tip in cash so Door Dash pays them the 5.00 plus they get to keep their tip in full that way! The last driver I had I mentioned that I tip in cash so they get to actually keep it and the driver said "oh you know about how they work that huh" LOL.

Good to know.

We had a very interesting experience with a Door Dash driver recently. We ordered two full meals: 2 sandwiches, 2 sides, 2 drinks. It was paid for completely including tip by credit card. This was for a delivery to work. When I went down to get our order that had been dropped off in the office, it felt awfully light. Opened it up and only one meal was in the bag. We called the restaurant and they said the order that was called in on their side was only the one meal. We had the proof of the full order on our end. The owner of the restaurant said the driver only gave him the amount of money for one meal. Apparently, this guy pocketed half the food money AND his tip. This wasn’t the first time the restaurant owner heard of this complaint. We won’t be bothering to use Door Dash again. I’ll just go pick up orders myself from now on.

We've only used Uber Eats once and my husband handled it but I *think* he still tipped the actual driver.

I hope you filed a complaint with Door Dash that's terrible.

That is odd because typically no cash is paid at a restaurant by the door dash driver- they either have a streamed way of paying the restaurant one large sum for all orders at the end of the week or the driver uses a Doordash sponsored credit card when picking up. Cash is never exchanged. Partnered restaurants are the only ones that get the streamlined method of payment plus they also get a better method of ordering avoiding bottlenecks on their phones lines meaning your food is made on time their for your food arrives early or within reason

I don’t know if it was a cash payment or put in electronically but however it was done, the only payment that the restaurant received was for half of what we paid online through the Door Dash site. And yes, we did file a complaint. At first, they weren’t going to reimburse the money for the second meal. Then they tried to just give us Door Dash credit. There was NO WAY we were going to accept that! Between the high fees and this being an experience that others in our building also had with this service, it’s not worth it to us to use again.
