Since my new job doesnt allow PTO until a year after being employed there, I am taking weekend trips for now. I am going to WDW from July 28-30. My flight leaves on Jetblue at 8pm, lands at about 10:30pm at Terminal C. I never had issues getting an Uber there in the morning and afternoon. However not sure how the availability is that late at night. Its taking me to an all star resort.

How is availability for uber this late at night? Thank you! :)

Shouldn’t be a problem I wouldn’t think. Orlando is the worlds biggest vacation destination and Uber drivers know that and they know people fly in at all hours. You should be fine.
I would think so. July is smack dab in the middle of summer, and Friday night is a going out night/in general busier time. So I do believe youre right!

Many uber*lyft drivers do this has a 2nd job.
Nights, weekends ,holidays are PRIME time for them. They make their money then.

The one time I arrived late and tried to use a ride share, it was not cheap. Both Uber and Lyft wanted around $100. With a bit of a wait.

I flew in on a Friday night around 8. Uber and Lyft both had surge pricing and were over $100 and there was a 20 minute wait. I took a taxi for $55, walked down and got in with no wait.

How did you do that exactly? Do you have an ap?

For uber and Lyft I have the app. The Lyft app is also what you would use for a Minnie van at Disney.

To get the taxi I followed the signs at the airport and they had an area roped off (like at the bank) and a line of taxis. There was one person in front of me they got in and the person working there waved the next taxi over for me.

I did take Lyft back to the airport from Boardwalk inn. There was no surge pricing and it was cheaper than the taxi (I paid $40 plus tip)

If for some reason you get caught up in Uber surge pricing you can always grab a taxi cab. My experience has been that late night pricing has always been reasonable. Lots of people departing in the evening so drivers are looking to pick up return fares

Mears has an app. At the airport you don't use the app. Follow the signs, I think the taxi pickup is on level 1. Taxi fares are metered.

When I arrive late, I take Mears. This might sound counterintuitive, but my experience from Terminal C has been that if I arrive late, I get a Mears jitney-style vehicle (not a big bus) and I'm either alone on it or there are only a couple of other passengers. And it's $15 + tip, not $55 or $100.

You do not have to reserve Mears. When I used them in March, I saw the pricing for a rideshare, walked downstairs to the Mears counter, filled out my info, and got a ride in about 10 minutes.

Just a suggestion. There's hardly any traffic the later you get there, so the roads are clear.

$100?! Ouch. Was this in Covid times when there were fewer drivers or this year?

At that hour I would feel far more comfortable using one of the established companies operating from the airport with set pricing vs any of those online taxi cab services.

Funny. I “feel” safer in an Uber/Lyft than a taxi, maybe it’s the millennial in me. Seeing the drivers name, sending my ride tracking info to a family member gives me a (definitely false) sense of security. Both options require heightened awareness obviously.

@Miffy had no idea about that Mears option. Do they offer that during the day as well or do they send you over to a bus?

I agree with this. Obviously you can have a problem with the driver of any vehicle. But if I get in an Uber/Lyft, at least there is some record of me getting in the car, and who the driver was supposed to be. If I get in a cab, there is no record of me getting in that vehicle. I don't know why people feel safer in cabs.

And I'm definitely not a millennial.

Don't taxis have to post the Driver and their taxi certificate (whatever it's called) in view of the passengers in the back? Would it be that difficult to snap a picture when you get in the cab and text it to a friend/family member?

To ask a side question, I'm going to need Uber going from Boardwalk Villas to north Orlando about noon next Wednesday July 19th. How far in advance is appropriate to set the reservation as I've never used them before? My DS calls me a fossil for relying on taxis. And are Uber and Lyft about the same service and cost?
