I am interested in using Uber to supplement our use of Disney transportation during our upcoming trip.

Since I'm not really familiar with how it works, does anyone have tips/advice on Ubering around WDW?

Thanks!

Uber is so simple that there's almost no need for instruction. Download the app, type in your destination and click. The car will come find you using GPS, and away you go.

When you download Uber or Lyft, check to see if there is a promotional code available. If you have a friend or relative who either has a rider account or drives for either service, ask them for their referral code. If a friend/relative gives you their referral code, they will also get some discount/bonus...typically small, like $5.

With a code, you will get a decent promotion. Promotions vary widely -- but typically new riders get something like $20 in discounts which can be applied $5 at a time to rides.

If you have multiple adults in your party, set up rider accounts with both services for each adult and you'll get a ton of discounts. You can then take turns in ordering rides and applying your discounts. Just a husband and wife using both services could result in an $80 savings during your stay.

Be sure to look through the Everything You Wanted to Know thread: https://www.disboards.com/threads/everthing-you-wanted-to-know-about-uber-lyft-at-wdw.3443634/

There is a wealth of WDW-specific information in that thread.

What you want to do is create one account first. That account will receive it's own referral code. Then you can use that referral code to set up the rest of the accounts, and the first account will receive credits for referring the subsequent accounts.

Assuming you have Location Services set to On on your phone. If you typically have it turned off, go into your phone's settings to turn it on.

Does anyone know anything about the new "uber" type of service being offered by disney. I will be traveling with a party of 5 (3 adults & 2 kids) and I'm not sure a regular sedan will work for us.

They are just now hiring for it, so it will be a while before any details are released. But you can bet Disney will likely offer SUVs as well as sedans.

If it's the new "Express" service door-to-door onsite, I believe the fee is $29 per person for everyone over 3 for a multi-day pass valid up to 7 days. But they only go between Disney locations, not offsite.

If the kids are >3, you can take a heckuva lot of Uber rides for $150! Uber/Lyft fares are per ride, not per person. With 5 or more, you would need Uber XL or Lyft Plus and that would be an SUV or minivan capable of carrying six passengers in addition to the driver.

You just have to get the details, run the numbers, and see which works out better for you.

Express bus service between the parks and what the PP is referring to are different things.

We used Uber a lot in Disney for the past 2 trips. Its so super easy... the app is very simple to understand. Highly recommended if you are only going to use it for a couple times during the week.

Does anyone know if UberXL is expensive or if it is about the same as regular Uber pricing? Are Uber drivers pretty flexible in terms of finding your exact location at resorts? We are staying at CBR and I was hoping they could pick us up close to our room as opposed to the "lobby" area.

Here's the tip that I will share: When you decide to request a ride, make sure that you are at the place outside the resort or park where Uber typically picks up, and have your whole party there before you request the ride. I was VERY surprised at just how fast the driver showed up once I clicked the button (it was like 3 minutes). If someone decided to go to the bathroom or wandered away, it would have caused an issue.

Uber XL from All Star Sports Lobby to Boardwalk lobby cost $11.22
Uber XL from Boardwalk Lobby to Pop Century Lobby cost $8.67 last month.

It's more expensive than UberX, but less expensive than two UberX trips.

Same here...I "ordered" an Uber to take us back to AKV from TOTWL. I requested it before we got on the elevator and it pulled up as we walked out the front door! Unbelievably fast and well-worth the $10-$15 to avoid walking to the MK bus stop and trying to catch a bus after Wishes.

I have found they are fairly good and getting better the longer the service operates at Disney.
We had a few last year that couldn't find our building at POR, even though we pinned our exact location when requesting the ride, and I even sent a text to help them. We gave up and just used the Lobby. It's "fool proof" for pick ups. They know where it is/can find it easily. For drop offs, with you helping to direct them, they can easily get you to your building.

Yes, at CBR you can be picked up at your building. When you request the ride, the app will drop the pin wherever your GPS says you are, and the driver will look for you as close to that as possible. Zoom in on the pick-up location when it's displayed on your phone, and make sure it's in the right place.

I have a standing rule for our rides, we do not request a car until we are ready to get in a car. I won't have a ride waiting on us so we won't even click while walking up, unless we are less than 1 min away.

I completely agree with this, I hate the idea of that driver wasting time waiting on us, especially as there usually a minimal wait when requesting via either Uber or Lyft. We were so happy during our CBR stay that the driver could come right to our building, that was so convenient and worked out really well.
