I'm trying to get a feel for the amount of money that will be spent on an Alaska cruise. Does someone have an idea of how much they spent in total just on excursions? Thanks! :)

Go to the airport for a week and eat all of your meals there. You will get an idea of how much it costs for things in Alaska.

There are inexpensive things that can be done in each port and very expensive ones. Anything involving flying will cost a lot - with the helicopter to the sled dog camp costing ~$500+ pp. You will usually save a little money if you book your excursions with private vendors rather than through the ship.

Check out the Alaska forum at Cruise Critic for more info: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=55

Thanks for the link but I was hoping to find out what people pay for Disney excursions which is why I didn't ask the question on cruise critic. I went there first but came back here because I wanted Disney specific answers. :goodvibes

Look at the Port Adventures for DCL's Alaska ports: http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/cruises-destinations/shore-excursions/. For example, Disney's Exclusive Dog Musher For a Day (http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/c...isney-exclusive-glacier-dog-musher-for-a-day/) is $699/adults/$499 for kids.

I did. That's what made me ask the question. I wanted an idea about what people actually spent on Disney excursions when they went on the trip, especially those with children. Hopefully someone who went had an idea. Thanks.

Do you want to know which excursions people recommend? What people actually spent is pretty obvious from the prices on the excursion list.

Pick what interests you in each of the 4 ports and add the prices.

Was just looking for simple answers like "We spent about $1000 on excursions" or "We spent about $700 on excursions." was not looking for details.

What others spent on excursions can vary a great deal - depending on the excursions chosen and family size. You need to determine what interests you, and then you'll know how much it will cost.

My first Alaska cruise in 2007 had the most expensive excursions, all booked privately. I spent $219 for a Misty Fjords flight in Ketchikan, $99 for a Juneau whale watch (a bargain), and ~$150 for a rail/bus tour in Skagway - so about $468 pp. Prices will be higher in 2012, and anything booked through the ship will cost more.

I realize that. Thought it was still an appropriate and simple question. If not, forget it.

Oh I totally get that and am used to that here on disboards. Every family is different. Again, if no one answers that's ok.

I recommended the flight-seeing to Misty Fjords to a friend but she balked at the thought of a small plane, and opted to visit the historical "onion-dome" churches. We also enjoyed the rail trip in Skagway, but again, some people may be nervous about the steep canyons. My bro-in law went salmon fishing but that would bore me to tears. It really depends on your family's interests. Some people are "into" adventures; others would rather just walk around the small towns and window shop.

The OP is asking for a general ballpark of what a person with a family spent on just excursions on their Alaskan Disney cruise. Not for anything specific on particular excursions. No one can chime in on what they spent on their excursions?

For the OP, going on how expensive Alaskan excursions are and that on average, you could do maybe no more than 2 per port, you could possibly average it this way:

3 ports x 2 excursions each = 6 possible excursions
@ an average of $200 (ballpark) pp x family of 4 = $800 per excursion
$800 x 6 = $4800 est. for trip in just excursions

Of course, some excursions are more or less, and children prices will be a bit cheaper than adult prices.

Thank you! That's exactly what I was looking for. That really helps.

Both my family and the others at my table spent between $500 and $800pp on Alaskan excursions, booked through Disney.

Thank you!

I can see that I will possibly spend at least $1000 to $2000 for the two of us. These figures help give me an idea of what I'd be getting into if I booked an Akaska trip. Also it would likely be our only vacation for the entire year given the cost. Good to know.

Once again - what others spend is irrelevant unless you do the same excursions. To get the best idea of what YOU would spend - look at the DCL excursions that interest you and add up the prices.

By the way - I posted what my excursions costs were pp for my first Alaska cruise.

One could do 2 excursions in Skagway, but with Juneau and Ketchikan having shorter port times in 2012, one excursion is probably all one could do. Victoria is the 4th port this year, and there will be evening excursions. However, based on what can be done in 4 hours in the evening, the most expensive would probably be Tea at the Empress @ $116.
