I can't answer your questions, but do know this.

Our trip in Sept. will be our first time at both water parks. We are giving each water park their own day. We plan on getting there around opening, should we get everything we want done and still have time, then we will go back and hit another park.

The only snag with planning an afternoon visit only is if there is a thunderstorm - which can be quite frequent in August. They stop all the rides if one is nearby and it can interrupt your time somewhat.

I would go for the Sunday morning if you can squeeze it in and get there for opening

Yup... this happened to us. The good news is that the T-storms do clear out the water parks significantly. If the storm passes quickly, then you could be in luck once the storm passes if you choose to ride it out!
