Tylenol Vs Advil?

I thought I remember Coach Charles (or someone) saying you should only take Tylenol after long runs. I injured my hip flexor / quad and was told to take advil twice a day to help with inflammation.

Is it ok to be taking advil (NSAIDs) or is there a specific reason why Tylenol is better after LRs?

Thanks!

Research suggests that the NSAIDs can be tough on the kidneys. That along with the fact the kidneys are already under stress from the run, NSAIDs are a double dose of stress. Your better bet would be Tylonal.

On the other hand, if you are having issues severe enough for a pain med, taper is a great time to just stop running and allow the body a couple weeks to heal. If taking t his route then NSAIDs are an acceptable route.

Just make sure that if you do start up on NSAIDs that you do get off them 2-3 day before the race.

Also if you're taking pain meds and training, remember that you're taking pain meds and its damping the pain of the injury (or any new injury that might decide to crop up). Dont overdo it and don't push too hard while your on the meds.

Thanks for the replies! I knew there was a reason and I could not remember what it was.
