Well, I'm here... if there's a moral to this trip so far, it is:
do not get sick just before leaving for WDW! I started to feel bad a day or two before we left, and when we arrived, I was feeling pretty lousy; runny nose, fatigued, etc. My big plans for sticking around MGM late and videoing the fireworks with the monopod fell apart, we ate dinner, watched Fantasmic (no pics, I had my son on my lap which was quite satisfying anyway), and heading back at just after 9. I filled myself with generic Nyquil and hit the sack.
I felt better yesterday morning, and started the day OK. Shortly after noon, I started to feel extremely sleepy, like someone slipped me a tranquilizer or something! We headed back and moved from our studio at Saratoga Springs (to save points) to our one-bedroom where we'll be the rest of the time. (Which is extremely, extremely nice BTW!) We laid around and I took a short nap then we headed back to MK. We watched Spectro and Wishes and rode a few rides and I started to feel lousy again... we did manage to stick it out until midnight, the park was open until 2. If I was healthy, I would have been there to the end.
We've been lounging around the room this morning and are about to head out for Epcot, then back to MK for a character dinner reservation. I felt better again this morning so hopefully I won't spend the whole trip sick and grumpy!
Photo-wise, it turns out that my favorite lenses are the 50mm 1.4 (for the speed) and, as it turns out, the Zenitar 16mm has been a real star, I've used it quite a bit. (I can't wait to see how some of the 35mm shots with it come out!) After that, the kit 18-55mm, then the 50-200, then the Sigma 28mm, then the 400mm (unused so far though I did drag it around last night.) Generally it's been pretty painless carrying everything around (thank you, Op/Tech straps) but last night I did feel like a mule, with the camera bag, camera, and tripod slung over my shoulders.
Here's a few teasers so far:
I'm using dial-up, so my connection is very slow. I'm going to just leave it connected for as long as I can though. There are no unsecured wireless connections in range to sneak on to. Oh well... I may check in again if time permits but no guarantees.
