So I've been crunching numbers but am hoping for some input. I'm staying at the GF CL with a 30% room discount I just booked for July. I'll also be looking at the WL CL in Early December where I'm expecting about 20% (historical trends).

I get 5 day PH tickets for $270 (Corp. discount). Would you guys purchase the AP at $611 instead of buying 2 tickets separately at $540? I figure besides the 10% off dining discounts I may get an extra 5% off for either of my stays making it a nice little deal. Thanks!! :badpc::surfweb:

Hello there,

If you get your 5 day PH ticket, for 270, its actual value is 325. YOu can then go to the ticket gate and Upgrade your 5 day to a park hopper for the difference in value. so the upgrade would only cost you 275. roughly the same as your second 5 day PH ticket would. However as you note, you will save 10% of dining and more from your stays. As well you could buy a Tables in Wonderland card ($75 I think) and you save an additional 10% off most purchases in the parks/restaurants. Which sounds like a better deal all in all.

Hope this helps !

I think I'd really consider the AP for an additional $71, especially if there is a chance of taking another trip by June/July 2014 as the AP is good for 1 year from activation. You can also purchase the Tables in Wonderland card that gives you 20% off dining. I think the TiW card is $100, but the savings may make it worth it in the long run. Good luck.

Funny that as much as I have researched over the years, you can always learn something new. I wasn't aware of the TIW and upgrading slipped my mind also. Right now I think I'm leaning towards getting the AP with the hope I get an additional discount! :thumbsup2

And don't forget the 10 percent merchandise discount (though it's a perk that can be taken away at any time).

I think between the possible additional room discounts and the TIW for all your trips, you'd come out ahead.

My DH and I are staying at the WL in December and plan to return in May 2014. I've been debating about buying AP's. Would we each have to buy a TIW card, too, to get the discount on meals? Or will one card cover both of us?

One card covers up to 10(?) people, so for two of you, you'd only need one card. Though the cardholder has to be there to get the discount. So if you ever split up for a meal, only one of you would get the discount.

Getting the Premier Passport was the best decision I ever made, The kicker is that if you get the annual pass, you get all your nice discount benefits and who knows if that "boring weekend" cant turn into.... another Disney trip :D

If you got discounted tix, just make sure to swipe it at a park turnstile BEFORE trying to upgrade - there are several posts about this, it "locks in" the full price value, not the discounted rate.

Definitely do the TiW card if you get the AP. The basic 10% AP discount on dining is good at a limited number of restaurants and mostly only for lunch. The TiW card gives you 20% off at almost all TS restaurants and bars (and CS locations at AK, POFQ and the value resorts) for both lunch and dinner. One thing to note is that an automatic gratuity of 18% (20% at V&A) of the pre-discounted food and beverage cost is added to all TiW purchases. It's still a great value.

Thanks guys! I think ill be ordering that AP tomorrow as soon as I decide whether to buy outright or with several Disney gift cards from Target. Will def strongly consider TIW!

Are you getting a corp discount on the AP? If not, why not get your discounted 5 day ticket & upgrade after you get there? As posted above, you'll get the full ticket value when you upgrade as long as you use the ticket before upgrading. If an AP discount comes out, you can still book it. You might just have go back & to show the AP after you upgrade.

I am boooked in May with the room & ticket package discount. I plan to upgrade to an AP after we go into the first park. Then I'll get a Tables in Wonderland card as we have mostly table service meals booked. We'll be going back in Dec, too! See you then! :goodvibes

That's a great idea and one I'm still considering its just if I wait to upgrade to the AP in the park, I won't be able to (hopefully) get the additional 5% discount off my GF rates in July. Tough call

You would have to do the math... Is the bridging of the 5day ticket worth more than the additional 5%? Also, some discounted tix, like those TAs can order for themselves, are not upgradable, or so I have read here, so check your fine print!

OP I was wondering about this to. Thanks for asking!!
Can anyone tell me how much it would be to upgrade our 6 day bases to AP's we are taking one trip in September and one in May so we are not sure if this would be the best deal.
We would be upgrading 2 adults and one child.

The price of an adult 6-day base ticket is $278, and the annual pass is $699, so it would be $421 plus tax. A child's 6-day base ticket is $260 and the price for a child's annual pass is the same as as adult's, so it would be $439 plus tax.

Do they include the price of the PH when you upgrade or do they only count the base ticket price? We're doing 9 day PHs in May and planned on upgrading mine and my husband's for our 7 day trip in Aug.

They go buy the price of the ticket you have.

I have read many times that you can book an AP rate without having an active AP. You would have to call for the discount, you won't be able to access the online AP site. When you check in, if they ask to see the AP, tell them you still have to upgrade your ticket. You might have to go back to the check in desk & show them your activated pass later. But they'll give you a chance to do that & still keep the AP rate.

EDIT: found the info on the AP discount thread. Check posts 38 & 39.
