Two contracts for one reservation?

Hello all,

My sister and I are considering each purchasing a contract. We would like to frequently pool our points together to reserve a Grand Villa. How would we do this? Would we have to transfer all points to one contract to make the reservation? Or could we simply tell the reservation agent that we both want to contribute points?

Thanks!

You would have to transfer the points into one account. Otherwise, if she booked 3 days and then you booked 3 days, there is no guarantee that you would have the reservations linked to stay in the same room. Also, it increases the risk of not getting the room type of your choice. Booking 6 nights at once guarantees the availability better than booking 3 days at a time.

Actually, yes you can have the reservation linked between accounts so there are two ways to do this.
1) transfer points from one person to the other and book the entire reservation under that account or
2) One person book part of the stay and the other the rest of the days. Then have MS link the two reservations together.

Where you are buying will better determine the best way. If it's BWV with it's few number of GV's then you probably want to do the transfer. If it's AKV, SSR or OKW you are probably fine in each booking part of the stay because of the greater number of GV's at those resorts. BLT - probably the transfer but the might depend on the time of year you are going for. VGC - transfer.

I just reserved a GV with two different contracts. I had six nights with one, one night with the other. MS linked the two reservations.

Correct me if I am wrong, but in order to do the above, you had to be authorized on both contracts. So, for the two sisters, one would have to book 3 days and then the other would book 3 days later, affecting the booking priority on a GV which could be an issue.

Even if you are the owner both contracts you still can't combine a booking like I think you're saying. If it were being booked right at 11 months in the above transaction the 6 days could be done on one call and then the 1 day would have to wait until the 11 month mark for that date - just like the OP's situation with the two owners.

I don't think GV's in most situations are all booked up that quickly right at 11 months anyway with the exceptions I noted above where I might be concerned.

We have two memberships with multiple contracts and I frequently do this type of booking between the two.

We recently did this with our friends for January. I booked 3 nights in the GV and she booked 4 and we had the reservations linked. Next time I'll book 4 and she'll book 3.

I would want to transfer the points and know that I got the entire reservation booked, rather than risk booking 3 days and then not getting the next three days (as per the example).
Just the way I am wired.

That is exactly what I had to do with my last day. I had to wait six days to book that last night.

If the points had been transferred, you could have booked all 7 nights with the first call and could rest knowing your plans were complete!

We do this often with our daughter and its never a problem.

We both get on the phone with MS (three-way calling) to book the stay. Beforehand we have decided who is going to "pay" for which nights so that it comes out approximately even. We then have MS book the resort and link the reservations together. Never had a problem and always have been able to stay in the same unit without having to do any check-in/check-out.

But I had to borrow points from the next UY. You can't transfer borrowed points and you can't borrow transferred points and I didn't have points that I could have banked. So the only way possible was to use the one contract to get six night and the other to get one night. I did transfer just enough to add to the existing contract (with borrowing all of next year's points in that contract) to get the six nights. Then I had to use the rest of the small contract and borrow some from the next UY to get that last night.

The safest way to do this is to reserve separately then link them. The best chance of success is to do it by using the transfer option. If one owner has enough points by banking/borrowing, without transferring, that is another option.

You will both need to be buying at the same resort also for this to work at 11 months in case this hasn't been mentioned previously.

Not an issue. We both called MS at the same time. The only problem is that you have to call from the check out day instead of the check in day so you can both book at the same time. I called ahead to find out if it was available, and then I patched her in with a conference call, and MS took care of all of it at once.

OK, so if I transfer my December 2010 points into my April 2011 use year, do those December points then become April points? Do the transferred December points still expire on November 30, 2011, or do they then expire on March 31, 2011? I am corn-fused!

Transferred points retain their UY and home resort status. Your Dec UY 2010 points would be valid for use until Nov 30, 2011 unless you banked them. Transferred points can still be banked but not borrowed.
