Two Bedroom Availability at 7 months?

I just became a resale member with 160 points at AKV. I've already got a bit of the addonitis and we know eventually we will be looking to book 2 bedrooms for a week on occasion, so we will need to add points. Are 2 bedrooms generally available at most resorts at 7 months? Top priority would be the monorail and Epcot resorts and wouldn't mind being at AKV. Most of the info I can find on this is from several years ago, and 7 months from now (January) looks pretty good at most of the resorts. Is that the case year round?

Basically, if we add on, I'm wondering if it matters which resort we purchase if the main concern is 7 month availability. Even if we add only 25 points, is there any reason we should look at a resort besides AKV?

If you are only adding on 25 points I would just get the same resort you already have. The 11 month booking window you can only use whatever points you have for that resort. So if you add on 25 at poly you would only be able to book a stay that is 25 points or less at 11 month.

As far as 2 bedrooms, I haven't had a problem at the 7 month window. Our past several trips we have stayed in 2 bedrooms at grand Floridian, bay lake tower, and Boardwalk. Obviously if you are booking over a major holiday or a busier time of year, the choices will be more limited.

Our experience with Kidani said it wasn't easy to get at 7 months during the F&W. We wanted a 2 BR, and since it was a non-Epcot resort, we figured 7 months would be OK. However, I was on the phone right at 7 months (and wishing we were AKV owners so we could book 1 hour earlier). Got one of the last 2 BRs, and when I checked online a few minutes later, it showed no availability. Wouldn't expect that at a non-Epcot resort. Last year we had no problem getting an OKW 2 BR during the F&W

I think there are several factors at work, there.
  1. Owners have learned that if you want a room during Fall Frenzy, you book home resort in home resort booking. For many owners, this is AKV.
  2. Switching at 7 months is not guaranteed, especially in Fall Frenzy. AKV owners are probably less likely than SSR owners looking for the 7 month swap.
  3. AKV is popular with renters, and as availability dries up for usual suspects during Fall Frenzy, some would-be renters hold on for 7 months and hope of AKV.
Fall has gotten more frenzied the last few years, and I think owners are getting smarter about booking.

Two bedroom lock-off inventory is affected when people book the studio and create one bedroom units. Two bedroom dedicated units don't have this issue but not all resorts offer them. I once thought that DVC maintained a number of lock-offs as separate inventory but I have been told by DVC management that that is not the case.
