Thank you to everyone who followed along with my pre-trip report! I decided to do a separate thread to make it easier to read, but feel free to catch up with my pre-trip excitement here: Mindyjoy's PTR

For those that would like the Readers Digest version, here's a bit about us:

“We” consists of me, Mindy, and DF Tim (both thirty-somethings). We live in Los Angeles and have been dating for almost 6 years. Growing up in Los Angeles, my family took annual trips to Disneyland and I am a life-long Disney fan. I have been a Disneyland AP holder for 12 years. DF grew up in New England and, well … is not as enthused about Disney as I am. Before we met he had never been to Disneyland and had only been to WDW once. Within a month of us dating, we went to Disneyland. As DF was buying a day pass I said to him, “If you plan on dating me for a while, you might want to invest in an annual pass.” He said, “Let me see if I like this place first.” Needless to say, when we were on our way out he upgraded to an AP! And has renewed every year ever since. I can’t say I’ve converted him to a full-blown Disney fan, but he enjoys Disneyland and enjoys Disney movies (especially Pixar). We try to go to Disneyland once a month and every year for my birthday we stay at the Grand Californian.

Shortly after DF and I started dating, I made the decision to get my college degree. I never went to college after high school. It sounds cheesy, but after I met DF I felt like my life started falling into place. DF is an aspiring television writer and he works really hard to achieve his dreams, and he inspires me to be a better person. I knew with his support, I couldn’t fail! So for the last 4.5 years I’ve worked full time and gone to school full time. And because DF has been unemployed and doing unpredictable freelance work for the bulk of the last 5 years we have not taken a real vacation together. Long story short, I graduated from college in December (wooohoooo) and DF has a GREAT job on a sitcom this year, so we decided to reward ourselves with a vacation! Since this was for my graduation, DF asked me where I wanted to go. I was nervous about asking him to go on a Disney cruise, but he said, “Whatever you want, I’m sure I won’t HATE it.” So in October 2010, we booked! Then the following month, DF proposed! So this vacation became our graduation/new job/engagement celebration cruise!

WARNING - I'm kind of a picture taking maniac, so this report will be very picture heavy, and yes I took pictures of (almost) everything I ate!

Before I get into the details, I will do a "glad I did/wish I had" list. I see these a lot on Disney Wedding trip reports but not so often on cruise reports, and I find them to be helpful, so here is mine.

GLAD I DID ...

... went with a Disney cruise. We knew we wanted to try cruising and knew we could get a better value on another line. I reeeeeeally wanted to try the Disney cruise and we could afford it at this time in our lives, so we went for it and we were not disappointed. I get a kick out of seeing all the Disney stuff like hidden Mickeys and characters, and hearing the Disney music in the halls. I LOVED that there were TV channels playing classic Disney animated movies and I turned these on any time we had some downtime between activities. But the reason we booked a Disney cruise is for the quality of service that we have come to expect from staying at the Disney hotels, and the cruise did not disappoint. Everything was top notch, five star quality. Every CM we encountered was friendly and outgoing. I saw so many CMs squat down and talk to kids. Even though I don't have kids, I love to see this stuff, because it reminds me of being a kid at Disneyland. I am getting teary eyed thinking about it. There was Disney magic all over this cruise and I loved every second of it.

... only planned one excursion. I really wanted to go horseback riding and we booked this through Disney for Cabo day 1. We didn't book any other excursions and thanks to all the previous TRs I was able to plan our other port days on the cheap and we had a great time.

... participate in the FE! It was so much fun! Yes, we are two adults but who doesn't love giving and getting gifts????

... brought an over the door organizer. What a lifesaver! It came in really handy for all my little bathroom things. And having it face into the cabin meant that I still had access to all my stuff even if someone else was occupying the bathroom.

WISH I HAD ....

... not forgotten my razor. And then I wish I hadn't bought one in the gift shop for $3, because I found out later in the cruise that they have free razors in the lady's changing room in the gym! If you forget your razor, don't be a sucker like me! Just pretend you are going to work out and then grab a free one!

... not brought on so much of my own booze. I brought two wine cubes and only went through one. Those drinks of the day were too tempting for me to pass up. DF, however, went through all his beer. :thumbsup2

... not been so impulsive when buying pictures. Did I really need to spend $20 on that picture of us with Captain Guss? Probably not. I wish I had waited until the last couple of days to go through all my pictures instead of checking every day and buying them one by one.

... gone dancing at Wavebands more often. DF despises clubs and dancing so I avoided it until the last night, then I got my groove on, dancing with myself without shame. It felt good and I shouldn't have been so insecure about going there alone earlier in the cruise.

If I think of anything else I will post it, but that's what I've got for now.

So without further ado ..... MY TRIP REPORT!!!!! *fanfare, confetti, etc*

DAY 1 - EMBARKATION
Part 1

On Sunday 4/10, I woke up super early, too excited to sleep. DF directed an all-day sketch show that Saturday and didn't get home until around 2am, so he slept a little later. I was up at around 7am, so I showered, finished up packing, and sat around waiting for DF to get up. He was up and moving around 9am. We finished up our packing, made some breakfast, gave the cat some extra head scratches and hugs, and were heading out the door around 10am. We got the port just before 11am. Neither of us had been to the Port of LA before and we followed the instructions on their website and got there with no problems. Although, I was confused by the parking situation. Note to future cruisers: When you turn right into the World Cruise Center, you park right away. We weren't sure where to park so we drove aaaaall the way around the lot and had to circle back in. Precious time wasted!

Ah, our first glimpse of our home for the week!

5632911139_5c4d220417.jpg

Check-in was super easy. The outside of port was a bit chaotic with people leaving from the previous cruise. Once we were inside, there were nice people directing us where to go. We got our first Navigator, and I asked the woman for another. She shot me down, which ended up not being a big deal since there were plenty of Navigators available to take from guest services every day. We waited a few minutes to check-in and get our KTTW cards, then through security and into the lounge area. We had boarding group 10. The whole process probably took about 20 minutes. We got settled and next thing I know, I get recognized from someone in our DIS group! LovingRN recognized my Mickey shirt and came over and introduced herself. We chatted for a bit and offered to let us board with her and her family, since they were boarding group 6 .... shhhhh ... that was super nice of her! Next thing I knew, they starting to board! It was probably around 11:45am at this point. I didn't even have time to take pictures of the lounge area!

Next thing I know we were on the gangway!

DF saw this sign and thought it was cute - it is one letter off from my last name.

5633494430_35a4bd22ef.jpg

We have no idea what it means.

We walked on and they announced our names, and shuttled us over to Parrot Cay. However, when we got there, they shuttled us again up to Beach Blanket Buffet, which is where I wanted to eat anyway. We made our way up there and found the first available table. Next thing I know, a nice man is offering us drinks in pretty glasses. Ooooh, ahhhh, yes please! I made my first purchase using my KTTW card and took a sip of my Bahama Mama ... yes, I am on vacation!!

5633495450_3916283d70.jpg

I waited with our carry-ons while DF made a plate, and then I went and made my own plate. Overall I wasn't too impressed with the food selection and we didn't eat at BBB too often. We quickly ate our food and went to explore.

I'm on a boat like Leo!

DF didn't want to lug his backback of beer around so we found a table in the very quiet Quiet Cove area and sat down. After a few minutes I remembered I needed to go to Wavebands and change my PALO reservation. DF said he would wait with the stuff and read his book if I wanted to go handle that, and roam around the ship. At this point it is around 1:00 and we have a while until our room will be ready. So I head off to Wavebands. About 90 seconds after I left DF, he texted me this picture:

5632913297_8baf7dde15.jpg

D'oh! I missed Goofy!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it!

I made my way to Wavebands, and there was no one in line. I walked in slowly because I was confused by the lack of guests .... a male CM asked if he could help me and I said I was hoping to change my PALO reservation. He said of course, and ran over to me and put out his arm. I took his arm and he escorted me to the table and pulled out my chair for me. What service!!!! The kind lady CM changed my PALO reservation from Wednesday to Thursday, and everyone kind of giggled when I said that Pirate Night wasn't really "my thing." Changing the reservation was quick and easy and painless. Whew!

I also stopped at guest services and made my reservations for the Tequila tasting the next day, and dropped of my photo mat for the characters to sign. They also had handy maps of the ship available so I took a couple of them; they were a lot better than the ones I had made for my FE gift, lol!

When I was done I met back up with DF. He went to check if our rooms were ready (why didn't I do that on the way back ...????) and came back to report that, they were! We headed to our cabin, and on the way we passed by LovingRN's room and she was already putting up magnets!!! :rotfl2:

We got inside our cabin, good ole 6096 (we really loved our cabin and location). When we got in, our luggage wasn't there yet, but there was this:

5632912725_a61847599d.jpg

Our friends had arranged for champagne and chocolates to be waiting for us as an engagement present! What a surprise, and so sneaky!!!! DF did say, "so that's why they asked so many questions about our cruise, it all makes sense now." We had some time to kill before our DIS meet so we popped the champagne and sat on our veranda, enjoying the scenery.

5633496374_dc797b8e7f.jpg

Okay, so not the most scenic view.

Next thing we knew, it was time to go to the DIS Meet! So nice to finally meet all the people I had been chatting with!!!! :grouphug:

After the meet, DF went to check out Diversions since he wanted to watch the Red Sox game there at 5pm, while I went up to the room to see if my luggage had arrived. At the room I met Anthony our room attendent, who already knew my name! He asked if I was "Miss Mindy" and asked where "Mr Tim" was. :rotfl: I was wearing a celebration pin so he asked what I was celebrating. I told him I had just graduated from college and we also had just gotten engaged. He congratulated me and told me if there was anything we needed during the week, to just ask. We loved Anthony and he was super great all week. I started to unpack but soon it was time for the lifeboat drill.
DF was back by now so we headed up early. DON'T DO THIS. We stood out there like idiots, standing in line in the cold windy air for 10 minutes before the alarm went off. Then all the smart people showed up. :sad2: Newbie lesson learned for next time.

Back to the room to finish unpacking, set up the FE, and decorate our door! We unpacked just in time for the Sail Away party. When we walked out the door, there was this!

5633496598_9f2bb8261a.jpg

LovingRN snuck a gift in! Our first FE gift, how exciting!

We ran up to Deck 10 to watch the party.

5633497700_147012e89c.jpg

After the show, DF went back to Diversions to watch his game :sad2: while I went to the front to watch the ship sail away. Then there was an announcement that we wouldn't be leaving for another 45 minutes! So I went back to the room and organized a little more, and wandered around the ship.

Finally we start moving!

Day 1
Part 2

It was around this time I put on my Sea Bands and popped a ginger pill, to be safe. I could feel the boat rocking but never actually got sick. Every time I started to feel a little nausea I would take a ginger pill and felt much better.

I went to find DF in Diversions but somehow I found my way to the gift shop. :rolleyes1 Oh my, how did this end up in my possession???? :rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1 Yep, we had barely left the port and I already bought the D&B purse.

5632917025_8023d1be55.jpg

It turned out to be a great purchase and I used it all week. Just enough room for my KTTW card, camera, lipgloss, and a few ginger pills.

I went to meet up with DF and show him my purchase (not impressed) and the game was ending, so I asked him if he would run around and deliver FE gifts with me. He agreed so we went up to get the gifts and pass them out before dinner.

I made brushes to clean sand off your feet, and a little cruise necessities packet. I hope people liked them! We actually used the brush on each port day.

After we passed out our gifts, we went to get changed for dinner and headed to Parrot Cay. The boat was pretty rockin' at this point so forgive my lack of pictures of the restaurant.

We were shown to a table for 4 people but we sat by ourselves the whole cruise. I'm not sure if we were originally supposed to share our table with another couple, or what. We weren't opposed to sitting with tablemates but we also enjoyed sitting alone.

We first met our assistant server, Bastien from France. He had a very thick accent and acknowledged it right away. He told us that if we can't understand him to let me know and he will say it again or rephrase it, and he assured us that he can understand English very well. Overall Bastien was great. We had some minor issues with him during our night at Animators, but I'll get to that later on. Overall he was attentive and great. Next we met our server Nelson from Chile. Nelson was amazing! Very friendly, had a great memory, and was very attentive and accommodating.

I didn't really enjoy the food this evening. I wasn't feeling sick but I also was trying to get accustomed to the movement of the boat and I felt "off." I just couldn't enjoy dinner and to be honest I don't have a strong memory of the dinner, I just remember I couldn't wait for it to be over so I could go back to the room.

We also at some point met Tektas from Turkey, our head server. I don't really remember our first meeting but we saw him every night and he was very friendly and great. He would always come over and put his hand on our backs or shoulder and shake our hands. DF joked on the last night that Tektas touched him more than I had that week. :rotfl: Tektas was a great head server.

To start I had the St Maarten Stack

5633500160_eb59aa629f.jpg

It tasted good but I kept expecting it to be warm, when it was actually a cold appetizer. I was so confused. The grill marks threw me off!

For entree I had the Pearl-Barley Cakes. They were bland. I am not a vegetarian but I enjoy vegetarian dishes and I try to only eat meat three days a week (didn't happen on the cruise). Overall I was impressed with the SOUND of all the vegetarian dishes but the ones I had were disappointing.

5633500336_1352627826.jpg

DF had the mixed grill and said it was okay.

5633500242_3b0605107d.jpg

Nelson was very disappointed that we didn't want any dessert but I just wanted to get back to the room. I should have just explained that to Nelson but I was kind of embarrassed. So he said to save room for dessert for tomorrow's dinner and he would see us tomorrow at Triton's for formal night.

When we got back to the room we had a towel animal waiting for us.

5632916913_607fbc3c59.jpg

Too cute! I'm assuming we got the swans because I told Anthony we were recently engaged. We ate our chocolates, looked over the Navigator for the next day, watched a snipet of a Disney movie, and fell asleep.

Yay! We love picture heavy TR's. (Especially food pics...)

Woohoo! :woohoo: The purse is great, isn't it?? I'm the same as you, I can't wait to read other reports from our cruise. I find it so interesting that there are 2000 people on the boat and they are all doing different things.

Ginger pills are great! No side effects. :thumbsup2 I "borrowed" the bare necessities kit and the brush ideas from other people on the board. The Homemade FE thread is a great resource.

Typing my report last night really did a number on my carpal tunnel so I don't think I'll be getting another installment done today. Hopefully tomorrow! :surfweb:

OK, you can have 24 hours.

Just this once.

Ice, alternating with heat, regular strength Aleve, and roll a facecloth underneath your wrist as a wrist rest.

Now, get back to the keyboard!!
