I know a lot of people in the Disney community refer to twitter as a great source of information about Disney, both for news and planning when you're out of the park, and for real-time info about closed rides or interesting happenings when you're actually there. What do you find to be the most effective way to use twitter for these purposes? Is it more a matter of following particular people, or running searches for particular terms or hashtags? What is working for people?

Thanks!

I enjoy Twitter. I haven't had the chance to use it as a resource while in Disney, yet. I will next month. I just searched Disney and started following people it suggested. It's fun tweeting with people just as crazy about Disney as me :thumbsup2

Twitter's a great resource for feeding your Disney addiction!
Just join, jump in and do a search for "disney" or "disneyworld" or "WDW", etc. and follow the "tweeps" who seem interesting to you. I especially enjoy tweets from those who are there, tweeting live.
Lots of people post photos, which is great! News can be VERY up-to-the-minute. For example, right before my recent trip someone tweeted live from the MK re. a (very small) fire that forced Astro Orbiter to shut down. Turns out it was a bit of a non-event, but that's the kind of info you can glean from twitter.
It also may possibly be the quickest way to learn about new discounts.
Give it a try!

P.S. To answer your specific question, for me it's all about following a bunch of Disney fans. I never do hashtags BUT I can see how that could be useful, too. I like to follow CMs who are in the parks a lot and have that perspective :wizard:

This is EXACTLY the sort of info I'm most interested in. I'm already quite familiar with twitter and have already set up a list of Disney folks that I follow (@jrtoastyman/disney, if anyone is interested), but most of it tends to be info that is more helpful for long term planning than short term, "I'm here and I want to know what's happening right this moment," sort of info. Any tips for how to find that sort of thing? There's some in my list, just not much...
