TVs and VCRs to become obsolete in the next 5 years

Ever since I brought home my DVD player, I've snubbed my VCR and become a DVD snob.
But I see it this way: We have videos of our wedding, our honeymoon, our daughter as an infant... Where am I going to watch these things? On my VCR. I'm sure at some point we'll be able to convert them to another media, but for the foreseeable future, the VCR is a cheap, widely adopted way of sharing these things.
That doesn't address the copy-protection aspect of the story, but it is a common denominator for a lot of people, I think.

I had no idea that was the stumbling block for the HD conversion. I am so looking forward to everything in HD, but I'm not too keen on all this potential government control and regulation. I don't understand this limited use thing. Would it prevent somebody from recording a program to watch later? That doesn't make sense. I don't think there will be a problem with folks being able to watch their 'home' movies though.

chefbilly~ you can get your video tapes converted to DVD! our walgreens photo center will convert them. i dont know the cost though. you should check into it.

Call me crazy, but I think out legislators should have better things to do than worry about TV.:D :D :D :D
