My husband and I will be on the Fantasy on 09/17/2016

On our Grand Cayman day we want to visit the turtle farm and go to the beach :)

For the beach part we booked Family beach day at Tiki beach at 12:15 p.m.

Our other options for the turtle farm were the dolphin encounter (which we are not interest in doing) and the Island tour. The problem is the Island Tour option is not available to us because it overlaps with our 12:15 excursion; even the earliest one.

What would you recommend us?
Do you think we can have enough time to do it on our own in the morning?
Taxi to the farm directly? Any other options?

:thanks:

It is do-able but do Give yourself lots of time as there is so much to see. It's not cheap and you don't want to cut your visit short. They have a fairly decent restaurant there also if you feel like a little lunch and a beer. Taxi service is pretty good on the island but I would make sure you leave there by 11 to get back in time for your excursion.

We went there on our own a few years ago, but did not try to squeeze it in with other plans -- that would make me nervous since its hard to be sure on timing for catching a cab or bus back to port. We didn't think there was a lot to see, didn't think the lunch place was great (overpriced) and overall did not think it was worth it. We only did the Turtle Farm, though, and not the attached water park activities. We did not do the beach on that trip, but have on other occasions, and wished we had just done the beach instead. As with most things, experience can be subjective. YMMV.

We did this on our own last fall. It was far cheaper than booking through DCL. HOWEVER...we were a group of 7 & grabbed a taxi. We arranged to be picked back up at a certain time. The taxi driver was there, but once we boarded, my mom realized she left her camera at the turtle farm. So she & I jumped out and said we'd find another way back home. Finding another cab back to the ship was STRESSFUL.
In summary - go for it, but arrange and follow through with your return taxi :)

thanks for the help!

I think we are going to give it a try by leaving as soon as we are on port to make sure we have engouh time for our excursion.

It was a taxi outside port? or an specific company?

I don't recall a specific taxi company, but I do remember there was a designated spot just outside the little market area at ports where all the taxis waited. The 6 of us waited while my husband went to talk to the taxi guy and negotiate the price. I'm sorry I don't remember the price, but I know we had done a little research prior so we knew what the charge should be. I want to say $5/person each way.
You will have plenty of time to enjoy the turtle farm. We had 2 small kids & 2 older folks with us & had no trouble seeing everything. It was HOT (so take some water or prepare cash to purchase).
We liked feeding the sea turtles, too! You can buy bags of turtle food for $5. My daughter is a turtle LOVER, so she had a great day :)

Why not just take a taxi from the turtle farm to seven mile beach? Is there a reason why you want to do the beach excursion thru disney?

I did the exact excursion you mentioned with the swim with dolphin. To be honest I did it to swim with the dolphins (bucket list!), but I ended up enjoying the turtles even more!!! It was great and totally worth it! I say definitely grab a cab! But make sure to plan it properly and probably do it first, before the beach! There will be plenty of travel options from the beach! But not so much with the turtles without a planned excursion. Have fun!

If you prebook online, you can save 20% off your tickets. I wouldn't recommend trying to be back for another excursion because that sounds stressful to me. If you have to have beach time, I would suggest just grabbing a cab at the turtle farm and asking to be dropped off at the beach. You drive right by 7 mile beach on your way there. We did the farm on our own with the water parts and spend the whole day there.

thanks for the replies!!!

To be honest there no specific reason to do it through Disney other than being late on my way back the port. That stresses me out.

If it's just a matter of a taking a cab and if the port is close maybe we can just do it like that.

So from the farm you ask a cab to drop you at the beach? or at an specific resort?
