Turn off your Xmas Lights!

I love seeing the lights in the snow. We were away for Dec this year, so didn't put any up, but if I had them, they would be on. Our lighted winter village is still up in the house and that too will stay up through the winter..we just don't light the Christmas trees that are part of it.

The lights never bother me but my DD absolutely freaks out when she sees them up past January. Last year my neighbor kept all of his multi colored lights that he had on the house, the roof, around his windows and on every bush in the yard up and on until March. I thought DD was going to stroke every time she came over. :rotfl2:

You would hate me. I have white lights on my light pole that I have up year round. I love the look of them. There are other houses in my area that leave them up too. Right now you really can't see them because our light pole is almost covered with snow. I think they are pretty and I feel that I am not bothering anyone, in fact, people comment on our nice they look and everyone always knows our house!!

I wouldn't mind living on your block! :flower3:

I don't know...maybe January and February wouldn't seem so dreary if more people kept their lights up.

Ours are still up, too. We can't get to the cords to unplug them because of the snow- and even if we could get to them we are not risking electricution to turn them off! So, until things dry up around here, not gonna happen. We have gotten 38 inches of snow in one storm and another 14 in this week's blizzard.

yeah my mom cant get to the cord/timer on hers. So they still light up every night @ 5pm. She had a blow up Frosty too but he's buried under the snow lol.

My neighbor still has his xmas tree on his deck with lights. I like it because everything is so glum this time of the yr. Some of my xmas garland is up. We can't get at it because of the snow. As soon as we have a warm day we will take it down. In Vermont ski areas they keep xmas decorations up until March.

We have community guidelines that all outdoor decorations, including lights, must be removed 2 weeks after the holiday, no matter the holiday.

And they will come after people. We had a neighbor threatened with a $500 fine because a wreath was still on her door. It was definitely a Christmas wreath, not a year-round decorative one, but $500 for a wreath seemed a bit excessive!

At my house we put up a mixture of white and colored lights both indoors and outdoors each year. The colored lights outside get turned off right after new years day and the colored lights on the xmas tree come down then too.

However.... the white lights on my porch wreath, small pine tree with white lights in backyard and white icicle lights on patio stay up and on until March!!! And inside I take down the Santas and stockings from my mantle but the white lights stay on until March as well. Winter is so dreary in Michigan and we need something cheery.

:santa:
I'm with you on dreary Michigan! We have had our lights turned off, but not taken down, for a while. Last night I asked dh to turn them back on since they looked so pretty in the snow. I figure it will make a few people smile.:)

I think this thread has inspired me to turn on the little white lights on our bushes out front tonight! :lmao:

Woo Hoo... you go girl! :rotfl:

Actually mine look really pretty with the new coating of snow we got last night too!

It's the dead of winter so a little light is very nice and uplifting.

I agree.. I wouldn't mind one bit if people kept them up year-round.. I especially like the tiny white ones - very elegant looking..:goodvibes

Please, that's nothing.:rolleyes1 I had a neighbor who kept the Christmas lights on their house for SEVEN years!. :santa: Yep..the hanging icicle type. They finally sold the house and the new owners took them down, thank goodness.

That being said, our lights are still on the house. It driving my husband nuts, but I don't want him up on the lower roof with all this ice and snow. At this rate..they might be up there till EASTER! It just hasn't stopped snowing or icing since Christmas.:headache:

Nope, not gonna happen.

The lights stay up, and ON, until football season is over - and football season is over only after the Buckeyes are done and the Steelers are done. So my lights will stay on at least until Sunday night!

Go Steelers!

Okay, I admit it. Two of my Christmas Trees are still up. :rotfl2: I am not taking them down because I am protesting. I took down all the other ones and left just these two for the men in the house to carry and store. At this rate they may stay up till spring! They are in the dining room, flanking the french doors and look quite lovely actually :lmao: so guess they'll stay...until the "men" get to it. (and yeah, I have trees in every room in the house, each with a different theme ...crazy, but I love it!) (*one is a woodland them, no "balls" or anything, just vines and all small wood animals/twigs etc, other is a butterfly tree, very whimsical)
And my mailbox still has those little white twinklers on it, timer and all, so each night at dusk they turn on...I think thats why the snow plow guys haven't knocked down our mailbox:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Okay, flame suit on...............:rotfl:

We just go hit with more snow last night so my xmas garland is still up. We need some warm days to dig out.
