Hi...

I was at the store the other day and just had to buy some turkey legs....they looked so good. My question is this: what would the best way to cook them be? Should they be slow-cooked or should I prepare them like a regular turkey in the oven.

Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks,

They could be cooked either in a slow cooker for proably 6-8 hours in a BBQ / Tomato based sauce.....or oven roasted on a rack placed on a baking sheet. The later is slightly healthier as the fat can fall off the meat. In either event....if you're goal is finding healthy meats to incorporate into a weightloss plan....may I suggest 2 things?

1) next trip to the store...go with turkey breast (white meat) it has less fat (measureably)

2) with legs or breast...cook with the skin on...but remove and do not eat after cooking.

opps...the third thought....the recommended serving size/portion of meats is 4-6 oz....a turkey leg even without the bone will be considerably more meat than that....so you may wish to weigh your portions to help you get accustomed to the 'proper' serving sizes.

Hope this helps....best of luck to you! :)
