So we were there in August and I have to say that I was absolutely disappointed in the turkey legs that I heard so much about. For $12 (a piece!) I got a huge, over cooked, dried out leg that I couldn't even finish because after two bites, I almost choked on it. We wound up throwing them away virtually uneaten.

I find people either love or hate Disney turkey legs. I love the "idea" of them (I love smoked turkey) but I'm too self conscious to eat them in public looking like Henry VIII. It's my own hang up, believe me!

I was looking forward to doing my best Henry VIII impression but the legs were inedible. I love turkey so it was very disappointing, especially for the price.

I never liked them because they always taste more like ham than turkey to me. Love turkey (even smoked turkey) but highly processed very salty very smokey ham like turkey is not my thing :)

I have always wanted to try one but I just don't see myself enjoying it or even finishing it. Also walking around with that thing looks to be a pain.

First bite was good but after that it went down hills. Four of us couldn't finish one leg. It always looks so good...too bad it's not for our family. I actually envy person who enjoys the leg!

I have taken 1 bite and gagged...never again.

Just like ham, but stringy and uber greasy. Yuck.

WDW TURKEY LEGS "411":

1) Disney sells about 1.5 MILLION turkey legs every year!
2) That is about 7 turkey legs for every man-woman-child in Orlando.
3) Each of these bird legs weighs about 1.5 pounds for about $12 or 1-CS DDP Credit.
4) They supposedly come from 40-50 pound turkeys!
5) Nutrition, per Lisa Haines, VP Communications, WDW
. . . about a half day's worth of a grown-man's calorie goal (1,092 calories each leg)
. . . about a day's worth of a grown-man's fat goal (54 gr each leg)
. . . about two day's worth of a grown-man's sodium goal (5,283 gr each leg)
6) Recipe
. . . take uber-monstrous one leg
. . . inject copious amounts of salt brine
. . . smoke slowly at 225º for 4 hrs.
7) Available at the below (all Turkey Legs taste the same, and from the same vendor)
. . . MK - Liberty Square at Turkey Leg Cart
. . . MK - Tomorrowland at Launching Pad
. . . EP - America Adventure at Fife and Drum Tavern
. . . HS - Tower of Terror at Toluca Legs Turkey Company
. . . TL - Surf Doggies
. . . BL - Avalaunch

NOTE: We really do like the taste of the turkey legs. However, we seldom finish one, so
we save the calories for later. We still get the legs when we have a hankerin'. Additionally,
they do seem to be pretty "stringy".

I love Turkey Legs. It is our lunch at the parks most days we haven't planned TS. One per 3 people (so our group of 6 gets 2).

They smell great but all I tasted was ham. They are not something I would get again.
I have always loved the turkey legs. My husband says the same thing- "they taste like ham". I must limit carbs, so for me, they are good. If you are watching calories, probably not a great choice. But, again, I watch carbs, and don't eat sweet and/or starchy things, so since the great majority of food at DWD is loaded with sugar, flour, more sugar, more flour, I am so happy to have the turkey legs for an "indulgence"!

I would go out on a limb and say since they are probably smoked, they are just going to taste more like ham. I've never really liked smoked turkey because of the same reason. But I totally agree, anywhere I've had one, ren festivals, state fairs, WDW, all taste like ham.

We tried them on our first trip when our kids were younger. Made a good lunch for 4 people because we could only eat so much grease and fat. Lasted us til dinner when we finally recovered our appetites.:worried:

I actually LOVE ham! Can't eat much of it anymore now but I have NEVER had a moment where I've ever considered eating one of these. Yeah it does taste that way because it's smoked.

Plux if you get one in Frontierland you have the added benefit of fighting off the giant birds.

I actually enjoyed mine, though it was harder to eat than I thought it would be. There was no real way to do it neatly. I have only done it once, though.
