We are friends of a DVC couple who come to WDW often, and have for years.
Whenever they come to town we meet up with them at least once during their trip.
My DH was out of town and this couple invited me to dinner with them for last Saturday. They were on the DDP (not free). They offered to treat me with one of the TS credits.
I REALLY wanted to, if nothing else to be able to finally say I was eating DDP style!
I told them they may not be able to do so and explained why. They were not too happy because they looked at what they were treating me as extra remaining credits they had (just by chance, not by pre-planning/stretching).
I was fully expecting to end up paying for my own meal and would not have been upset to do so.
First, they had no previous ADRs. (Very flexible, know their way around very well, good natured and have their own vehicle.)
Almost every place was not accepting ADRs for that Saturday night. (She called that morning for an ADR.) I was on the phone in her one ear coaching her while her other ear was to Disney Dining.
I heard the Turf Club as an option and told her to jump on it. So that is where we ended up for dinner Saturday evening.
At the podium my friend explained exactly what she was going to do with her DDP credit (3 A).
No problem. Tell your server and welcome.
Told the server. No problem, I will use your three credits and welcome.
I was surprised that it was Saturday, at dinner time, and the Turf Club was nearly empty.
We ate well...
Wife friend ordered a vanilla shake as her beverage.
Her DH and I each had an unsweet ice tea. Since I was the designated driver, her DH also ordered an adult beverage on the side (OOP).
Her DH had the calamari appy.
Us two gals each ate a crab cake appy. We each had three good size crab cakes. Bite size they were not. They had some sort of sauce swirled in thin lines on the plate under the crab cakes. A little greens on the side, and some sort of relish I did not try.
The couple each ordered the steaks. One ordered with the crab topping. The other the mushroom topping. (Grilled Top Sirloin Steak; topping of crab meat and grain mustard sauce; topping of Blue Cheese, portobello mushrooms and balsamic-port glaze.)
Those came with the Turf Club potatoes. They could not tell exactly how the potatoes were prepared either. But agreed their potatoes were very good.
We had a wonderful, friendly server who was right on top of everything.
My friends made sure to tell the server their steaks were cooked just perfect. They both seemed to really enjoy them.
I ordered the lamb chops, well done. And they were WELL DONE. And I am not complaining. I am one of those who likes my meat WELL DONE with a touch of charcoal.
So my dish was perfect, yet tasty, tender and edible.
The chops came with a greens, that were slightly cooked. Not raw. Not slimy or a sloppy shape. Just very good with a vinaigrette type dressing. They also came with a cheese polenta, which was rather dry and okay. The polenta was very good when eaten with the greens in the same bite.
The lamb chops were like those little drumstick kind. Very tasty, and served maybe a half dozen of them. More bone than meat. But very good. And with the crab cakes, it was PLENTY.
Then dessert....
The husband and I each ordered the chocolate lava cake with raspberry sauce. (Well, he ordered his sans sauce.) VERY yummy. The DH was impressed. They also make this to order.
The wife ordered the cheesecake that came with some fresh fruit on the side.
Needless to say we all left VERY full..... And had a fun night at the Comedy Warehouse.
My friends also made sure to mention how good our server was on the way out.
Now --- I wanted to mention the next few evenings. My friends dined without me. But I wanted to share what their two remaining table service dining experiences were.
They must have trusted me on Turf Club. So the next night they went to Raglan Road after I told them how good RR was.
That was a wrong call that night!
They said just as well I was not there.
Their server was horrible. Not only for my friend's table, but other tables he was suppose to serve. He ignored his guests as much as possible. His main goal was to wear a silly hat and hang with his co-workers at the bar.
This is apparently what happens when bad servers get an 18% tip no matter what they do or don't do.
He came over as little as possible. Once even made an appearance to ask how their food was, and disappear before my friend could barely open her mouth.
And she said the food was COLD and bad. She ordered a steak and was just disappointed all the way around.
She said another table this guy was suppose to be serving could not even get a water refill from him.
My friends do not know a stranger. Just so happens toward the end of their meal a manager came around asking how everything as.
My friend said, Sit down. Let's have a talk....
As far as I know they were not compensated in any way. She told me it was not that they never would return to RR. But I don't think it will be in the near future.
The following night they were at MK at dinner time. Tony's was taking a few walk ups and they got in. My friend said the appy and desserts were excellent. (I recall an appy being the hot spinach dip and the dessert she mentioned was a trio). She said the main entree was so-so. But the appy and desserts made up for the remainder. They were very happy with their meal and being able to walk up and be seated right away.
