I found it very informative but it is a very long day. I don't think a 6 or 7 year old would be entertained by this excursion at all. I took my DS who was 9 at the time and he thought the day was just okay.
It's a long trip from the ship to these ruins. The tour was long and lunch wasn't served until the very end. We ate breakfast at 8:00 and then were starving by the time they gave us Subway sandwiches at 3:00 or so. They have a cute little beach but again the tour is so long that your time at the beach is very limited.
We tried it, last week but never got past the ferry transfer. The ferry from the Magic to Playa Del Carmen was so rough (8ft+ seas) that my DS and DW got seasick, even with the patch! Myself and DD made it whithout getting sick. Many people got sick and continued with the excursion but my wife was layed out and after a couple of hours of laying on the beach at Playa Del Carmen to recuperate, I had to get her and my DS back on the ferry back to Cozumel and they got sick again!
We spoke with others that made the entire excursion and they said it was even worse (the seas) when they came back. So, I would reccomend you double up on the medicine if you want to try it. The crew on the ferry said it is always a rough ride but I can not believe it is like that every day.
By the way. We got back hours before the others and on the walk back towards the ship (we got dropped of at the pier where all the ferrys dock at, not at the Magic's pier) my wife started to feel better after we stopped at DIamonds International and she walked out of there wearing a 4 caret tennis bracelet ! Shopping cures all ills!
