I grind my own beans at home and just received some nice beans for Christmas Do you think there will be a problem with putting my burr grinder in my carry-on? Don't want to pack it for fear it will get damaged. Has anyone had experience with airport security & burr grinders?

That is why I mentioned that it is a burr grinder i.e. no real blades. I think it should be OK, but it is a pricey unit & I don't know what happens if it is prohibited/seized.

I'm almost positive you'd have the option to exit security and check it or return it to your car (if they find a prohibited item, not that your grinder is prohibited).

If it does NOT have any blades, it should be OK.
We confiscate tons of blenders and grinders every week from carry-on luggage.
If in doubt, put it in a checked bag or leave it at home.

FYI: an item that is non-permitted at the checkpoint (like a blender or grinder) will have options: 1) go back to the check-in desks and check the bag with the item, 2) go back out and give the item to a friend or relative that may have dropped you off 3) surrender the item and it will be disposed of.
