So it looks like we're going to be getting a new trailer in December and
want to take it to the fort but having no luck...my son is in the Marines, does anyone know if they reserve a certain amount of spots for military discounts? Should I just keep calling back or just go ahead and reserve a regular room at a hotel?

Your son could get you rooms at Shades of Green at great rates. It's a very nice place. You can also keep trying for a campsite and if you get one cancel the hotel.

I have stayed at Shades of Green and it is a nice resort. Your son of course needs to be with you as he would have to be the one checking in. Rates used to be based on your pay grade, so for a younger enlisted soldier, it is a great deal. Not sure if it is still that way as it has been a few years since I served. It is about a 1/4 mile walk up to the Polynesian if you want to catch the monorail, and of course they have regular bus service.

There are tent sites available during the weekday portion of your desired stay FWIW. Probably doesn't help you.

.......

First, in February the weekends are nice camping weather so folks reserve well ahead to do a short weekend trip at the Fort.

Second, rates are lower that time of year and bump up higher around Valentine's Day so folks reserve well ahead to beat the price increase.

Third, many folks come for the winter and stay for weeks/months/longer which requires booking well ahead (I'm jealous of them).

Fourth, you have other folks who can travel off-season (non-holiday, non-school calendar) who have already booked.

Looking for an opening 3.5 months ahead is going to have issues unless you are trying to stay June-July-August.

That's the Fort these days. The alternative is to check multiple times a day, take a day here and a day there where availble, and string together the days you want.

If it were me, and I knew I wanted to go that week for sure:

I would reserve the room, but continue to check a couple of times a day on Disney's website for spots at the Fort. The alternative is to hire a travel agent to do so for you. You may have to piece together a few different reservations to get the week you want, just add nights as they come up, if they don't all come available at the same time.

If you end up getting your Fort reservations, you can cancel the resort room.

Thanks guys..looks like we'll just go ahead and reserve a room and keep checking, with my fingers crossed for a campsite. .

You might consider booking a resort as well as the weekday portion of your campsite. Then all you would need to search for was the weekends.
