I unfortunetely have to plan very far in advance (timeshare owner) and want to go in the fall of 2007 and was wondering the best time period to go. We can go the last two weeks of September - the end of October, with the exception of Columbus Day week. Which would be a better week where the parks are still open later (not as late as the summer, I know) and I can avoid crowds. I was thinking that the end of October gets busy because of the Halloween festivities? Is that true? Are the hours later because of that? Also when does Columbus week start to get busy and how long through the week does it last? Any help is appreciated!

I would go at the end of Sept. Early Oct often brings closures of haunted mansion for the holiday over lay. That is followed by the closure of small world for the holiday overlay. Then end of Sept is usually pretty good. The kids are back in school, the weather is still very warm (HOT! at times).

Actually September is the Haunted Mansion closure for the holiday overlay. I vote for October then you can do Mickey's Halloween Treat.

does October get busier because of the MHT and do the park hours differ?

I've been told that October park hours will be similar to the last week of September. This will be the first year that DL & DCA have gone full out for Halloween in a long time it sounds like. Did you read the post by sammatt titled "Mickey's Halloween Time- October at Disneyland! It sounds like October is going to be a great time to visit.

Do you know what the closing hours will be and if there is Fantasmic or Fireworks? I wish Disney had an archive of their past schedueles so I can view it and see.

I wouldn't worry too much about the hours of operation. Generally the days the parks aren't open late it is very empty and you see so many more attractions even with up to 5 hours of less time.
