trying to pay dell.. outsourced

My Dell is an Inspiron 5100. All the quirks have been figured out. I love my laptop and would definately buy another Dell.

Welcome to the world of DELL all their phone support etc is based in India just one more reason not to deal with Dell.

My brand new compaq (3 months old) just got sent back to them because it stopped working totally. It took me 2 weeks of phone calls. ...(each person was from India) to finally get them to pick it up and ix it. they had to put in a new hard drive.

They were going to e-mail me confirmation numbers.

"excuse me...if the computer doesn't work, how will I receive the e-mails?"

they then sent me an e-mail telling me the computer was fixed and being shipped back to us.

I have second computer...but they didn't know that. If I didn't see that e-mail the computer would have arrived the first day of our WDW trip. By the time we returned FEDEX would have sent it back. Luckily FEDEX was willing to hold it and we picked it up when we got home.

This is my 2nd Compaq that I have had trouble with. My original one went back to the store after 1 day and we got a new one, 6 months later we had to replace the CD-Rom drive. I will never buy another Compaq.

In London we have 3 majour call centres 1 covers HP not compaq the other covers Verison DSL I think or one of those companies. The other one does something for AT&T. My cousin works in Winnipeg for a company called Convergis and they cover AOL and Western coverage for all of AT&T internet connectivity. I would also not buy A Compaq HP or Sony computer to many issues with hardware failures and Sony has a bad habbit of getting bad hard drives right from the vendor WD was the manufacturer or the last batch of dead drives in the newest Sony VIAO desktop systems.

About 2 weeks ago, I called regarding a noisey DVD drive, I had the guy listen to it on the phone (he was in India), I had FEDEX deliver a new one to my home approximately 20 hours later with a return, freight paid FEDEX to send back to wherever it was addressed. I swapped it out, dropped the old one in a FEDEX box and all was fine.
I swear by Dell's support, regardless where the phone call goes. When you talk to people today for support or ordering, it matters not the physical location. If the tech is coming to your location (I did have an on location call about 2 years ago, next day, at my home) or if something is being shipped (as above, 20 hours), it might matter. I have had great support, whether it by phone (I don't care if I am talking to a tech and s/he is on the moon, as long as it is good), mail or in person. Just my personal experience over the past 5 years, flawless on all acoounts.

Most of the major PC companies have outsourced their call centers to India. I saw a report on the news where they are actually having the employees in India take classes to learn to put on fake accents so they can sound like they are in America. We go to the local computer store and have them build a computer to our specifications. They are great about fixing any problems and best of all, they are only 2 miles away. It is not really any more expensive than a Dell or Gateway.
