Trying to Get to Mobile AL from Kansas City MO . Where can I find a cheap deal

My dh has to be in Mobile on the 21st. He just found out today of the exact dates.
I have been looking at flights all week and was able to find plenty for 250.00 and under. Well now that I know the exact date I can not find one 680.00
I found a flight where he would have 2 stops and it was 480.00
Why did it jump so much from just 2 days ago.

My question
Where can I find a Cheap flight??

Do you think he could get a cheaper flight from the airport. Should he try to call the airlines..
We both are new to flying so not sure what I need to do to save money.
Please help..

I assume you're looking at the 21st of January. If so, being that the date is only 7 days away, probably only the most expensive tickets will be for sale. The discounted tickets usually cut-off either 7 or 14 days from the date of travel.

You might want to consider flying in to an alternate airport -- either Pensacola (PNS) or Gulfport/Biloxi (GPT). You'll have an hour or slightly more drive to Mobile from either of those, but the price difference may be worth it.

You can try calling the airlines, but I think you'll get the best results by looking online. In fact, Travelocity will let you price flight to alternate airports, you my want to check that out.
