So, as you can see from my siggy/ticker, I'm about 20 weeks pregnant. I lost 15 pounds from my morning sickness, and I'm still very thin compared to where I normally am. In fact, I lost half a pound in a week (between appointments) and my morning sickness is mostly gone! So, other than stepping up my caloric intake, what else can I do to gain weight? It was recommended to me that I do 6 small meals a day, but I was under the impression that's what you do when you want to lose weight! I eat 3 regular meals, and snacks when I feel like it, but I'm still way too thin, according to my doctors.

Any advice? My daughter is measuring right on schedule, so at least I know she's not deprived, but I know I probably am!

My Mom is about 105 pounds soaking wet, and she'd like to gain a bit of weight too. I need to lose some so would love to give it to her but unfortunately it doesn't work that way!

She eats 3 meals/daily, but not a whole lot at each meal, she gets full very fast. She snacks in the evening and of course doesn't worry about how many calories she's taking in. And she does drink a bottle of Ensure daily, you might want to try drinking those, or Boost, to get some more calories.

You want to gain weight without taking in more calories than you burn? Buy heavier clothes...

go to mcdonalds every day and supersize it. you will gain weight.

try snacking on nuts, and upping your egg intake. I had problems gaining weight when I was pregnant, what did it was hard boiling 6 eggs a day and making deviled eggs to eat!

Since you are pregnant you really should be talking to you OB. Maybe she will recommend a dietician.

Thanks for all the suggestions! My OB did tell me to eat more, I'm just trying to come up with what to eat! He told me that if I want cheeseburgers, to have em.. but I can't eat that crud all the time. The majority of my diet is fruit and veggies, so it's not high calorie stuff. I'm also not very active since they stuck me on modified bedrest, I'm miserable because I can't even go out on my daily walks!

I would be more than willing to donate extra pounds to those in need... :thumbsup2

(I know that doesn't help, but it made me gigglle, and I really would if I could!)

It's not cheap but make yourself some form of ensure milkshake a day. It has actual nutrional value in it and you can buy it with protein or low sugar or whatever you need.

I'm still pretty sick and having form of this everyday since I'm not eating much. Tonight I had frozen yogurt with a vanilla ensure blended with frozen blueberries and peaches. I mix it all in the blender. I eat a cup at night and a cup at lunch.

The ensure isn't cheap but at least it isn't just junk.

I would find a nutritionist that specializes in pregnancy. And ask them. Because you don't want to just bulk up with crud, I mean, what on EARTH is the point of that? You just want to be healthy.

A friend of mine had intense stress through her whole pregnancy, and was just a touch away from having hyperemesis...she didn't gain a pound during pregnancy, and was pretty much a belly, a head, and skin and bones...her OB could see that she was eating well and was otherwise healthy b/c of the good foods she ate, and it wasn't a problem. And I think she was only at the hospital a day after, and went home in her pre-pregnancy jeans. Stayed completely healthy b/c of her good eating habits, was happy to not be throwing up, and nursed a good long time!

Just being thin, just losing weight, doesn't automatically mean you're unhealthy, and what ya need is a nutritionist who can help you boost your healthy diet, not JUST boost your fat cells.

Before you get to the laundry list of vitamins, Ensure (butter pecan flavor) is:

Water, Corn Maltodextrin, Sugar (Sucrose), Milk Protein Concentrate, Canola Oil, Soy Protein Concentrate, Corn Oil, Short-Chain Fructooligosaccharides, Whey Protein Concentrate, Magnesium Phosphate, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Potassium Citrate, Sodium Citrate, Soy Lecithin, Calcium Phosphate, Potassium Chloride, Salt (Sodium Chloride),

Not healthy-living to my eyes.

Once I was 20-some weeks along with DD, my morning sickness went away, and the pounds just started to appear magically on their own. When I gave birth to DD, I was pretty much at my pre-pregnancy weight, I had lost 18 lbs because of hyperemesis. I even notice now that when I have a few really bad "pukey" days, I can notice a difference in my body weight.

As long as you keep the food down, your body will adapt. :) Good luck!!
