Trying to figure out how to get the most out of points...

Okay, here's the scoop! We have 245 points to use next year. This will be our second time back as DVC members. We'd like to do a week at the VWL. Is it possible to book a studio for Fri/Sat, then transfer to a 1 BR for Sun-Thurs.??? Has anyone done this before to make the most of their points, or will MS tell me it can't be done?

You can do anything you want as long as you have the points to do it. For December, we are booked in a studio for Saturday night, a 2 bedroom Sunday through Thursday nights, and a 1 bedroom Friday through Tuesday night. We only have guests those 5 days in the middle, so no need for a 2 bedroom any more than that. Saves us quite a few points doing it that way.

You can do that, and they will be separate reservations, I believe. So you'll need to check out of the studio and check in to the 1BR. You will probably have to store your belongings at bell services until your 1BR is ready unless you get lucky and a 1BR is available by check out time (11:00 a.m.).

As Diane said, you can make whatever reservations you want as long as you have the points and the rooms are available!

Some people pay cash (if you have an AP, you can often get an AP rate) and stay at a different resort for the weekend. Assuming they have the AP rate during June 07, we'll likely try to do Sun-Thurs DVC, Fri-Sat at a deluxe with the AP rate, then another 3-4 days back at DVC.

As others have noted this can be done.

When we stay on weekends we check for the 25% member discount cash rate. The discounted cash rate, when available, works great for us by providing what we consider to be a better value than using points. A bonus with paying cash is that it lets us stay in the same villa and for us not moving from one villa to another is very important.

When my wife and I travel alone we stay in a 1 bedroom and we've become spoiled by them when compared to studios. It just wouldn't be the same spending the weekend in a studio rather than a 1 bedroom.
