We can rent a car for about $20 more then using a town car service. While I like the idea of being picked up and dropped off, I thought it might be nice to have a car if we want to eat outside of Disney to save some money. This is our first trip though, and are not sure if this is not something we are going go really want to do, are we going to be too tired to leave the parks to eat? I know we will use WDW trans for inside disney.

Hi sphere 99!
I recently posted the exact same question...we'll be staying on-site for the first time too...
I think we've decided to rent a car for a few reasons:
1) rental rates keep coming down (our rental cost is actually less than the cost of transfers now)

2) Our DD has diabetes so we can now hit a supermarket to pick up some food/snacks etc for her and so we can at least eat breakfast in our room to save some $$.

3) this will give us the flexibility to dine off-site one or 2 nights if we choose.

4) we will also have the flexibility to leave for the airport when we want - not hours and hours and hours early!

Hope this has helped a little.
Isn't this site just the best?

If this is your first time going to WDW are you really going to go off property to eat. There are a lot of wonderful places to eat on site. Are you going to feel comfortable driving around in an area you have never been before. I don't like to get lost!

The towncar will do a grocery stop for you and usually once is enough. Plus you have the extra responsibility of having a rental car (ie. accidents, damage, etc.) If the car is going to be parked for the week why go through the hassle!

Depends on the cost. We have a towncar reserved for the week before Christmas and will be saving money. The rental cars are really expensive for that time of year.

The towncars do not pick you up hours before they need to. If you do not like what time they are planning on picking you up then you can change the time.

Good luck with your decision!

we always rent a car just because we like the freedom you get with a car. We like to be able to eat meals offsite and do some bargain shopping at Beltz. We checked prices and it was almost the same price to rent a car so thats what we went with. Orlando is not that hard to get around in, but there is a lot of traffic if you are not use to it.

we are renting a car for the first time this trip, mainly because I have to come back to MCO to pick up my dd coming in on another flight, will it be easy for me to get to Port Orleans from the airport? and will it easy to find my way back to the airport?? I don't want to waste time being lost......

We went the hassle free route and used a Town Car! DH was skeptical at first but after the trip he said he wouldn't do it any other way!!! It was kind of nice to grab our luggage jump on the waiting town car while others were waiting in long lines!

We'll be there 12/8-12/13 and with the parks closing early that time of year, we decided that it would give us the freedom to go offsite for a late dinner or shopping.
We've been many times, and could probably get from MCO to disney property with our eyes closed (but we wont;) )
Our rental for the 5 days (National - EA) is $136 w/ taxes. It's a bit more than a towncar, but we like the convenience. We love the EA...never expected anything more than an Intermediate, we head over and grab something that looks good to us! We love getting off the plane, grabbing our luggage and out of the airport within 1/2 hr...We've got it down to a science!
Our flight gets in at 10:50PM, so we want to get to the hotel, get some sleep and be up and ready to go on Thursday morning!
