Trying to decide on a resort

So we are planning a trip to Disney April 30th-May 6th of 2017 and i'm having a heck of a time deciding on a resort. I had thought about renting DVC but also am not opposed to staying at a moderate resort like Coronado Springs or Caribbean Beach. Any suggestions? It's 2 adults and 1 child who will be 9 at the time of the trip. We are looking at this trip being a bit more relaxed, since we were just there in September 2014. Wanting to have some down times at the resort, swimming, and maybe do something off sight one day as well.

Thank you for your input!

For DVC, you're already within the 11-month booking period, although you've not yet reached the 7 month period. So certain room types are already likely gone.

With a 9-year old, my choices would be:
  • DVC studio at Boardwalk (queen bed for adults, pull-down for child, sofa in room for use); assume you would be paying for a pool/garden view, not a standard
  • DVC studio at Beach Club (same, by then)
  • Coronado
  • Caribbean Beach

I agree with @_auroraborealis_ suggestions. But you need to move quickly if you want to rent DVC points. And you need to be firm in your dates, as DVC rentals are generally not able to be cancelled once you commit to it.
Have Fun

All great choices! If the 9 year old is big on swimming or pools, go with a DVC studio at Beach Club! Coronado is a nice resort as well but it does have the convention center so it caters more towards business folk, making it feel a bit more "mature" than other Disney moderate resorts.

We stayed at AKL Kidani a few trips ago and that was very relaxing for us. We had a savannah view so watched the animals in the morning with our cup of coffee. It was a very restful and relaxing trip. I have stayed at CB before and I fould the resort was nice but a little too spread out for my liking. It seemed like it was a long walk to get anywhere.

I think for relaxing POFQ is great. Smaller resort in a great location you can use all the facilities at POR if your 9 year old wants a change of pool. Then you can use the boats to Disney Springs for different activities and restaurants too. I'm sure you'll have a great time whichever you choose!

Boardwalk would be my recommendation. It's within walking distance to HS and EP (or you can take the boats too!). The Fantasia Miniature Golf is within walking distance. If you want to do a day off-site, there is a car rental place in the Dolphin hotel, which is within walking distance from the Boardwalk.

We have also stayed at Kidani and their pool is pretty awesome. I also enjoy the relaxed feeling of that resort.
